Tradition, taste, and music in the village of Paciano
The Strozzaprete Festival is the most anticipated summer event in Paciano, a small municipality in the province of Perugia, listed among Italy's Most Beautiful Villages and overlooking the hills of Lake Trasimeno. The event celebrates strozzapreti, the handmade pasta that symbolizes Umbrian cuisine, with a formula that combines tradition, taste, and music.
The program opens with the historical procession, a costume parade through the village streets recounting important figures and characters from Paciano's history. This is followed by the spectacular nighttime cart race, organized by the members of the Congrega di Paciano: a race full of adrenaline and popular tradition that draws a large crowd.
For several evenings, in the "La Valle" area, Paciano's seasoned cooks prepare a rich menu featuring strozzapreti and other typical Umbrian dishes. After dinner, Piazza Santa Maria becomes the heart of the festival with live music and performances by various artists each night, for dancing and singing under the stars.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Paciano, the festival is a time when the entire village rallies around its roots. Amidst the aroma of homemade pasta, the colors of the procession, and the notes of the evening concerts, the Strozzaprete Festival offers visitors an authentic Umbrian village experience, just minutes from the shores of Lake Trasimeno.
The 2026 edition, the eighth, of the Strozzaprete Festival will take place in Paciano (PG) from August 9 to 18. The festival confirms its established format, blending tradition, taste, and entertainment.
It begins on August 9 with the historical procession retracing figures and characters from Paciano's history, followed on August 10 by the evening cart race organized by the Congrega. From August 11 to 17, every evening, the "La Valle" area will host dinners with strozzapreti pasta and typical Umbrian dishes prepared by the village cooks, while Piazza Santa Maria will feature live music and performances by various artists each night.
