A day of urban culture and street art in the heart of Valle Maira
StreetArt is an event dedicated to the world of street culture and urban arts held in Cartignano, a small village in the Valle Maira, in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont. For an entire day, the village's multi-purpose hall becomes an open-air laboratory where street artists, dancers, rappers, and DJs meet in a creative, dynamic, and inclusive atmosphere, designed to engage young people, enthusiasts, and the simply curious.
StreetArt is not an isolated event: it is part of the Borghi ritrovati project, a cultural and social regeneration path for the lower Valle Maira funded by the PNRR (Mission 1, Component 3, Investment 2.1 dedicated to the attractiveness of historic villages) and carried out jointly by the municipalities of Cartignano, San Damiano Macra, and Roccabruna. In the project's design, each village has its own thematic focus: Cartignano is entrusted with the hub dedicated to ecology and the environment, while San Damiano Macra hosts the cultural hub and Roccabruna the wellness hub. The events for young people are managed by Giovani Fuori Quota, the group that oversees activities aimed at the new generations of the valley.
The heart of the day is the free spray & free space section: anyone can try their hand with spray cans and shape their own graffiti on special wooden structures built for the occasion. The surfaces and all necessary materials are provided by the organization, so that both experienced writers and those approaching this art form for the first time can express themselves freely. It is a concrete way to bring a language often perceived as metropolitan to a small mountain community, giving the valley's youth a space of their own.
As evening falls, the energy moves to the stage: it's time for performances by emerging rappers from the province of Cuneo, a street dance show, and finally, a DJ set that keeps the evening going until late. To complete the atmosphere, there is an area dedicated to street food and drinks, allowing everyone to enjoy the event in a convivial way. StreetArt is free and open to all ages, but it speaks especially to young people who want to identify with a contemporary culture without having to go down to the city.
In an alpine territory like the Valle Maira, where initiatives for young people are precious, StreetArt represents a successful bet: bringing urban arts to a village of a few hundred inhabitants and turning it into a moment of encounter between different generations and languages. An appointment that tells the story of a living mountain capable of looking ahead.
The 2026 edition of StreetArt was held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the multi-purpose hall of Cartignano, in Valle Maira (CN), as part of the two-day initiatives of the Borghi ritrovati project. The event offered a complete journey that, from the afternoon until late at night, combined visual arts, music, and dance, confirming the event's vocation as a space for expression for the youth.
