About Trecase Street Food & Cabaret

In Trecase, a small town in the province of Naples, the square of the Sant'Antonio di Padova parish transforms for two days into a vibrant hub of flavor and solidarity. Street Food & Cabaret - Roots on the Plate brings together the most iconic names in Neapolitan street food, the stars of local comedy, and a Slow Food symposium dedicated to Vesuvius's biodiversity. All proceeds support the 'Wings for the Future' project, created to provide children and youth in the area with new, safe, and welcoming spaces.

Two days of flavor and solidarity at the foot of Mount Vesuvius

Street Food & Cabaret - Roots on the Plate is a community festival with a clear mission: to raise funds to provide the children and youth of Trecase with modern, safe, and welcoming spaces. The event takes place in the square in front of the Sant'Antonio di Padova parish church on Via Regina Margherita, transforming the heart of the town into a lively meeting place with communal tables, a stage, and food stalls.

Trecase is one of the smallest municipalities in the Metropolitan City of Naples, in Campania, nestled between the slopes of Vesuvius National Park and the gulf. This setting perfectly reflects the spirit of the initiative: here, food is never just food, but a story of a volcanic land, fertile and cultivated for generations.

A parish project: 'Wings for the Future'

The initiative is promoted by the Sant'Antonio di Padova Parish, led by Father Francesco Pinto, alongside a group of families and community volunteers. The project, called 'Wings for the Future', aims to transform parish facilities into gathering places where every young person in Trecase and neighboring towns can feel welcomed and free to grow according to their talents. This is not just a simple food festival: every dish served and every evening of entertainment has a specific purpose.

The event was presented to the press at the Gran Caffรจ Gambrinus in Naples, coordinated by journalists Lorenzo Crea and Enzo Agliardi, with the participation of Father Francesco Pinto and Raffaele De Luca, Mayor of Trecase and President of Vesuvius National Park, among others.

Neapolitan street food in the square

The gastronomic heart of the event is entrusted to some of the most renowned names in the Neapolitan scene, bringing their specialties to Trecase in street-food format:

  • L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele
  • La Masardona
  • Pasticceria Poppella
  • M'butto stick
  • Ti Fidi di Me by Patrizio Chianese

The result is a tasting journey that combines pizza, fried treats, desserts, and more contemporary offerings, with queues forming as early as the afternoon and a crowd arriving from neighboring Vesuvius towns.

Cabaret: the faces of Neapolitan comedy

Over the two evenings, some of the most popular names in Neapolitan and Italian cabaret take the stage: Simone Schettino, Pasquale Palma, Antonio D'Ausilio, Lello Musella, Nando Varriale, Nello Iorio, Ciro Ceruti, and Antonio Colursi. An impressive lineup for a parish event, which has given the two-day festival a reach far beyond the municipal borders.

'Roots on the Plate': the Slow Food symposium

The cultural aspect of the event carries the title that gives the entire project its name: 'Roots on the Plate - the unbreakable bond between Street Food, territory, and Vesuvius biodiversity', a symposium held in collaboration with Slow Food. At the center of the debate is the Centogiorni Pea, a Slow Food Presidium and a symbolic product of the Vesuvius agricultural identity, preserved within the Vesuvius National Park area.

Speakers include Trecase Mayor Raffaele De Luca, university professor Teresa Del Giudice, and representatives from Slow Food and local producers, along with restaurateurs, pizza makers, and pastry chefs linked to the Campanian tradition. The message is clear: street food can also be a vehicle for protecting biodiversity and supporting small-scale producers.

A space for families

For both days, a fully equipped play area is provided, so that families with young children can participate worry-free. This is a choice consistent with the event's goal, which is entirely dedicated to creating youth spaces: children are not just side guests, but the true beneficiaries of the fundraising.

Why it's worth visiting

Street Food & Cabaret - Roots on the Plate is one of those events that captures the most authentic side of Campania: a town of a few thousand inhabitants that organizes itself, invites the biggest names in food and comedy, and puts it all at the service of its youth. Those who come to Trecase will find a genuine town square atmosphere, with the scent of fried food, the laughter of cabaret, and Mount Vesuvius framing the horizon behind the stage.
