The spring strawberry celebration in the heart of the Alta Langa hills
The Strawberry Festival is the flagship event of Castelletto d'Erro, a tiny municipality in the province of Alessandria perched on the hills of the Alta Langa, in Piedmont. Every year, towards the end of May, the village comes alive to celebrate the strawberry, a symbol of spring that thrives in the clay-rich, sun-drenched soils of this secluded corner of lower Piedmont.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Castelletto d'Erro in collaboration with the local council, the festival reached its 26th edition in 2026, a testament to a well-established tradition that dates back to the turn of the millennium.
The festival takes place over a single Sunday, focusing on village conviviality. The typical program includes:
Beyond strawberries, the festival is an opportunity to discover the region's gastronomic excellence, starting with Robiola di Roccaverano PDO, the goat cheese that symbolizes these hills. The stalls offer typical products from small local producers, creating a culinary journey that tells the story of the rural identity of the Alta Langa.
Castelletto d'Erro is a village of just a few hundred inhabitants, dominated by its medieval tower, the remains of the village's ancient defensive system. During the festival, the tower is open to visitors, offering a glimpse of the Langhe and Monferrato landscape. The day thus becomes an invitation to discover an authentic territory, far from mass tourism circuits.
More than just a food fair, the Strawberry Festival is a celebration for the community of Castelletto d'Erro: a moment when the village gathers to welcome visitors with the warmth typical of Piedmontese towns. Admission is free, and the family-friendly atmosphere makes it ideal for a spring day trip.
The 26th Strawberry Festival of Castelletto d'Erro took place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, organized as per tradition by the local Pro Loco. The day's program included the opening of stalls with local products from 9:00 AM; at 11:00 AM, a visit to the medieval tower, the village's landmark; and from 12:00 PM, the serving of traditional Castelletto dishes, featuring the inevitable strawberry specialties. In the afternoon, at 2:30 PM, games for children were held, followed by a strawberry snack.
The edition confirmed the festival's role as a community celebration in the Alta Langa, in the province of Alessandria, successfully combining local gastronomy with the promotion of local heritage.
