The Tufino road race, winding through the hamlets of Risigliano and Vignola
The Stratufinese is a road running race that draws hundreds of runners to the streets of Tufino, a town of just over three thousand inhabitants in the Province of Naples, in the heart of the Nola area of Campania. Established in 2024, the event has grown rapidly to become one of the most popular fixtures in the regional running calendar: the February 2026 edition saw 1,020 registered participants and 869 finishers, numbers that, for a town of this size, clearly demonstrate the bond between the community and its race.
The course measures 9.9 kilometers and is built on a loop of approximately 5 km to be completed twice. The start is set in Piazza Gragnano, in the town center, and the circuit passes through the hamlets of Risigliano and Vignola, winding through countryside, neighborhood streets, and vistas that reflect the local identity.
Stratufinese is included in the official FIDAL calendar (the Italian Athletics Federation), a choice that has given the race technical credibility and official timing, attracting clubs and athletes from across the region and beyond Campania. Rankings are published by category and club, with awards also reserved for the largest teams.
The event is organized by the Gruppo Sportivo Santa Croce, led by Antonio Santella, working in synergy with the Municipality of Tufino. Mayor Michele Arvonio and Sports Councilor Mena Piciullo have made the race one of the town's signature identity events, presenting it annually at a press conference in the Town Hall.
Stratufinese is more than just a competitive race: it is a morning when the town stops and comes together. The hamlets along the route become part of the spectacle, volunteers guard the intersections, and the square fills up even before dawn. It follows the model of the classic small-town race that has always thrived in Campania: minimal theatrical pretense, maximum popular participation.
The first edition was held on Sunday, May 12, 2024, over a distance of 10 kilometers. The second edition moved to mid-February, on Sunday, February 15, 2026, coinciding with Valentine's Day: a scheduling choice that gave the race a specific theme of love and sharing, while inaugurating the event's winter format.
For visitors, Stratufinese is a great way to discover a lesser-known corner of Campania: the Nola plains, its agricultural villages, and Mount Vesuvius on the horizon. For locals, it has become a fixed appointment, capable of bringing together elite athletes running 10 km in 31 minutes and Sunday joggers on the same course.
The second edition of the Stratufinese took place on Sunday, February 15, 2026, in Tufino, province of Naples, starting at 8:30 AM from Piazza Gragnano. The coincidence with Valentine's Day gave the edition a clear theme, summarized by the motto «The Valentine's Day race – Bene facere et laetari»: doing good and rejoicing together.
The numbers exceeded expectations: 1,020 registered and 869 finishers (774 men and 95 women), figures that place the Stratufinese among the most crowded winter races in Campania. The light rain that fell during the morning did not discourage participants and actually made for cooler running conditions.
On the 9.9-kilometer circuit, to be repeated twice, which was undulating and made more challenging by two overpasses, Gilio Iannone (Mannara Running) won in 31'55", ahead of Armando Ruggiero (32'20") and Enrico Iorio of Atletica Marano (32'50"). Among the women, Francesca Palomba (Caivano Runners) succeeded with a time of 36'26", finishing 30th overall, followed by Filomena Palomba (38'32") and Raffaella Filannino of Daunia Runners (39'06"). Podistica Frattese won the team classification.
The edition was presented on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 4:30 PM at the Tufino Town Hall, in a press conference with Mayor Michele Arvonio and Sports Councilor Mena Piciullo, supported by the Gruppo Sportivo Santa Croce.
Tufino is located in the Nola plains, a few kilometers from Nola, in the province of Naples. The meeting point and start are in Piazza Gragnano, in the town center; it is advisable to arrive well in advance as the streets of the center and the hamlets of Risigliano and Vignola are closed to traffic for the runners.
The start is traditionally set for 8:30 AM. The award ceremony takes place immediately following the finish.
As a race included in the FIDAL calendar, registration takes place through federal channels and the timing service that manages the lists and rankings. The sources consulted do not specify the entry fee.
The circuit is undulating, with a gradual climb on each lap and two overpasses: it is best not to start too fast. The winter edition takes place in February, so it is useful to bring clothing suitable for cold weather and potential rain. Watching the race along the course is free of charge.
