The mountain race from Prato allo Stelvio to the Dreisprachenspitze, above the Stelvio Pass
The Stilfserjoch Stelvio Trail Run is a mountain running race that brings Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch to life every summer. Located in the Vinschgau Valley in the province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-South Tyrol region, the event is organized by the ASV Stelvio Marathon. It serves as the "shorter" sibling to the famous Stelvio Marathon, offering a unique 21-kilometer route with 2,100 meters of elevation gain that climbs from the valley floor to the Dreisprachenspitze.
The race starts in Prato allo Stelvio at an altitude of 915 meters. From there, the trail winds through the charming mountain villages of the upper Vinschgau, including Stelvio/Stilfs, before heading into the high-altitude wilderness of the Stelvio National Park. The finish line is located at the Dreisprachenspitze (Cima delle Tre Lingue) at 2,845 meters, just above the Stelvio Pass, one of Europe's most iconic alpine crossings, with the Ortler group dominating the horizon.
The Stelvio Trail Run is not just for elite specialists: at the starting line, you will find professional athletes, amateur runners, and hikers side-by-side, with or without trekking poles. Those not chasing a personal best can tackle the course at a walking pace, still experiencing the thrill of reaching the heights of the Stelvio Pass under their own power. Participation is limited, and registration opens well in advance on the official website.
Set against one of the most spectacular alpine backdrops in the entire mountain range, the event combines the physical challenge of uphill running with the natural beauty of the Stelvio National Park, the largest protected area in the Italian Alps. Prato allo Stelvio, the starting point of the historic pass road, is the ideal base for trail running and mountain enthusiasts, set within the bilingual context typical of the South Tyrolean Vinschgau.
Registration is handled online via the endu.net platform and usually closes one week before the race, with the possibility of late registration on-site subject to availability. For spectators and returning athletes, bus services operate between the Stelvio Pass, Stelvio, and Prato allo Stelvio.
