A nocturnal journey on foot or by bike to the Stelvio Pass, with the road illuminated and closed to traffic
Stelvio Night is a unique event held on the road to the Stelvio Pass, one of the most famous mountain crossings in the Alps. For the first half of the night, the road is closed to motorized traffic and opened exclusively to cyclists and hikers: no engines, just the sound of the mountains and the joyful effort of those climbing toward the 2,757-meter summit. The initiative is organized by the Prato allo Stelvio Tourist Association (Prad am Stilfserjoch) in the Vinschgau Valley, South Tyrol, within the Stelvio National Park.
The heart of the experience lies in the final seven kilometers before the summit: from the Berghotel Franzenshöhe to the Pass, the road is illuminated by indirect light that traces the famous hairpin bends in the dark and guides participants to the finish line. The ascent can be tackled on foot, by bicycle, e-bike, or any other non-motorized vehicle: everyone is welcome, at their own pace and according to their own strength.
Stelvio Night is not just about sport; it is also a journey of conviviality marked by food and wine stops included in the entry fee.
Drinks are not included, except for the aperitif. A paid shuttle service is available to take participants back down to the valley during the second half of the night.
Created to showcase one of the most beloved roads for cycling enthusiasts worldwide, Stelvio Night attracts participants from several European countries every year. The combination of outdoor sports, nocturnal atmosphere, scenic lighting, and high-altitude landscapes makes this night a standout date in the summer calendar of the Vinschgau Valley and all of South Tyrol. The municipality of Prato allo Stelvio, the gateway to the South Tyrolean side of the pass, serves as the organizational hub.
Stelvio Night 2026 was held on Friday, June 26, 2026 (with a backup date of June 27 in case of bad weather), in Prato allo Stelvio, South Tyrol. Ticket collection took place from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the "aquaprad" National Park House.
The return shuttle service to the valley departed from the cable car station at the Pass at 11:30 PM and 1:30 AM. The participation fee included the aperitif, soup, and pasta party (drinks excluded, except for the aperitif).
Prato allo Stelvio can be reached by car via the SS38 Stelvio road in the Vinschgau Valley. By train, the reference station is Malles/Mals on the Merano-Malles line, with a connecting bus service. The event starts at the Hotel Bella Vista in Trafoi.
