Gemona del Friuli - Piancavallo, in the sign of the 50th anniversary of the earthquake
On May 30, 2026, Gemona del Friuli enters the history of the Corsa Rosa: from the Caserma Goi-Pantanali starts the 20th stage of the Giro d'Italia, the penultimate and decisive mountain leg Gemona del Friuli - Piancavallo. An international showcase for the town in the Province of Udine and for the entire Friuli region, with the world's best cyclists passing by thousands of fans.
The choice of Gemona as the starting point is no coincidence: the stage falls in the year of the 50th anniversary of the 1976 earthquake, of which the town was one of the epicenters. For the occasion, a special pink jersey is planned with the message "Friuli thanks and does not forget", to underline the link between sport and the memory of the Friulian reconstruction, which became a model of rebirth.
On the morning of May 30, Gemona transforms into a grand stage: at the Caserma Goi-Pantanali, the Giro's commercial village is set up with sponsor spaces, entertainment, and activities for the public, before the advertising caravan passes and the official start. An event that combines passion for cycling with the pride of a community, supported by the Municipality of Gemona del Friuli together with RCS Sport.
