Spring Masquerade

A day of out-of-season masks in Pavullo

The Spring Masquerade is one of the most colorful and original events on the calendar in Pavullo nel Frignano, a town in the Apennines in the province of Modena, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. As the event slogan says, "it seems like a Carnival... at the wrong time": a masked festival that brings costumes and Carnival cheer outside their usual season, filling the streets and squares of the historic center for an entire day.

The masked parade and crazy costumes

The heart of the event is the masked parade, which crosses the characteristic historic loop of the town (Centro-Frati-Viale Martiri). Adults and children parade with original and "crazy" costumes, giving life to a competition that awards the most successful disguises. The parade transforms the center of Pavullo into an open-air catwalk, where imagination and self-irony are the true protagonists.

The Crazy Race and inflatable costumes

One of the most anticipated and hilarious moments is the Crazy Race, a wild race where participants compete wearing inflatable costumes. Amidst stumbles, laughter, and improbable disguises, the race starts from the town center and provides a comical spectacle for audiences of all ages.

Comics, cosplay, and pop culture

In recent years, the Masquerade has been enriched with a soul dedicated to the nerd world: comics, gaming, cosplay, and pop culture find a dedicated space, with gadgets, meetings for enthusiasts, and a cosplay competition with a jury and prizes. It is this blend of popular festival and contemporary culture that makes the event particularly appreciated by young people and teenagers.

Flower market, art, and gastronomy

The Flower Market, Art and Ingenuity, floral exhibitions, craft stalls, and food stalls that liven up the day serve as a backdrop. Between parades, visitors can stroll among the stalls, taste local products, and soak up the festive atmosphere that characterizes the villages of the Modenese Apennines.

A community event

The Spring Masquerade is organized by Pro Loco Pavullo, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pavullo nel Frignano and the association "Insieme per gli altri". Admission is free: an opportunity to discover Pavullo, the main center of the Frignano area, and enjoy a day of joy that combines tradition, solidarity, and creativity.
