Mirandola's grand masked parade with the allegorical floats of the Principality of France Corta
The Festa di Primavera is one of the most beloved events of the Mirandola spring: a grand masked parade that winds through the historic centre of Mirandola, in the Bassa modenese, in the province of Modena. The event is organised by the Principality of France Corta, a historic volunteer society that has enlivened the area for years with its allegorical floats and masks.
The heart of the festival is the allegorical parade: along the avenues and squares of the centre, large handmade floats parade, accompanied by about a thousand costumed participants, musical bands, and majorettes. It is a tradition that blends the folklore of Emilia with that of Verona, the result of the long twinning between the Principality of France Corta and the masked groups from the province of Verona.
The parade brings together some of the most famous masks of Italian popular tradition: La Mirandolina, the city's symbol, Sandrone with the Famiglia Pavironica, quintessential masks from Emilia, and the Papà del Gnoco of Verona, considered the oldest mask in Italian carnival tradition. The parade is opened by the Prince and Princess of Franciacorta, accompanied by the band and majorettes.
In addition to the parade, the Festa di Primavera is also an occasion for conviviality: along the streets and in the square, there are stands offering typical Emilian cuisine, with the famous gnocco fritto, cured meats, pasta with ragù, and Lambrusco wine. The day, completely free and family-friendly, includes entertainment for children and moments of performance that transform the heart of Mirandola into a large village festival.
An event deeply rooted in the life of the Mirandola community and the Emilia-Romagna region, capable of attracting thousands of people every year, including residents, curious visitors, and enthusiasts of allegorical floats and popular traditions.
The Festa di Primavera 2026 took place on Sunday, April 19, in Mirandola, in the province of Modena. From the morning, masks animated the historic centre, while in the afternoon, the grand allegorical parade crossed the city amidst music, costumes, and colourful floats.
The parade was accompanied by about a thousand participants, musical bands, and majorettes, with the floats being awarded prizes in Piazza Costituente and prizes drawn for the children. The day included lunch with typical cuisine and the Spring Motorcycle Meet organised by the Moto Club Spidy.
Ten allegorical floats from the provinces of Verona and Mantua paraded with about a thousand participants. Among the masks: La Mirandolina, Sandrone and the Famiglia Pavironica, the 496th Papà del Gnoco of Verona (the oldest mask in Italian tradition), and the Prince and Princess of Franciacorta opening the parade.
The festival is traditionally held in spring, between April and the beginning of the warm season, with the grand masked parade taking place on a Sunday afternoon.
