The flower market that turns the Nome di Gesù district into an open-air garden
The Spring Festival and Flower Market is one of the most beloved events in Calenzano, a town in the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany. Every year, on a Sunday in April, the Nome di Gesù district transforms into a vast open-air garden: streets and green spaces fill with flowering plants, scents, and colors to celebrate the arrival of the warmer season.
The event began as a simple flower market and has grown over time into a widespread community festival, attracting families and gardening enthusiasts from across the Florentine Plain. Participation is free and open to all, set in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.
The heart of the event is the Nome di Gesù district, with stalls and exhibitors spread along Via Cilea, Via del Molino, and in the Villa Martinez gardens. The stands occupy streets and squares, creating a continuous path through nature, agricultural products, and handicrafts.
The festival is promoted by the Calenzano Tourist Association (ATC) with the support of the Municipality of Calenzano and the collaboration of numerous local entities, including the Old River association, Sale in Zucca, and local Misericordie. It is a prime example of a grassroots event, born from the hard work of volunteers and the local community.
Just a few kilometers from Florence, the Spring Festival is the perfect excuse for a Sunday outing among flowers and greenery: you can stroll through the stalls, buy plants for your garden or balcony, let the children play, and enjoy lunch outdoors. A simple, authentic way to experience the Tuscan spring in the heart of the Calenzano community.
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the Nome di Gesù district of Calenzano hosted the Spring Festival and Flower Market. Along Via Cilea, Via del Molino, and in the Villa Martinez gardens, floriculturists, local farm producers, and artisans gathered, turning the streets into an open-air garden.
The 2026 edition featured the fourth edition of 'A Day as a Second-hand Dealer', the flea and vintage market, alongside numerous workshops and games for children organized by the Sale in Zucca association. The Old River association managed the food stands in the Villa Martinez garden.
'A Day as a Second-hand Dealer' became itinerant in 2026 with three dates: April 12 at Nome di Gesù, May 10 for the children's edition 'A Day as a Junior Second-hand Dealer' at Dietro Poggio, and June 14 as part of the Misericordia Festival in Piazza Vittorio Veneto and Piazza del Ghirlandaio.
One Sunday in April, open all day from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
