Three days dedicated to sport, unity, and the values of growth in Monreale
Sports Fest is a multidisciplinary sporting event that transforms Monreale, a stunning Norman town in the Province of Palermo, Sicily, into a vast, widespread sports village. Promoted by the municipal Department of Sport, the event spans three days packed with activities for children, teenagers, families, and enthusiasts of every discipline, with the stated goal of promoting sport as a tool for unity, inclusion, and growth.
The program weaves together diverse disciplines into a single, widespread festival: from youth soccer to dance, martial arts to rhythmic gymnastics, and a major road race. The city's squares and sports facilities host competitions, tournaments, exhibitions, and open trials, where local associations share their expertise to introduce as many people as possible to sports.
The competitive heart of the event is the Per le vie di Monreale Trophy, a 10-kilometer national road race organized by A.S.D. Marathon Monreale in collaboration with FIDAL Sicilia. The route, starting and finishing in Piazza Guglielmo II at the foot of the famous UNESCO World Heritage Cathedral, winds through climbs, technical sections, and spots of great architectural charm, crossing the streets of the historic Norman center.
Set in one of Sicily's most evocative art cities, Sports Fest combines sports practice with the discovery of the territory. Between the Cathedral, the medieval alleys, and the squares overlooking the Conca d'Oro, the event celebrates popular and grassroots sport as a moment of community, involving sports clubs, schools, and families from the Palermo area.
The 2026 edition of Sports Fest was spread over three days.
The event was sponsored by the Municipality of Monreale, the Sicilian Region (Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment), and the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Youth City Council and numerous partner associations.
Monreale is about 8 km from Palermo. By car, it can be reached via the SS186; there is ample parking in the areas surrounding the center. By bus, there are frequent connections from the Palermo station. The nearest airport is Palermo-Punta Raisi (Falcone-Borsellino), about 40 minutes away.
Activities take place between Piazza Guglielmo II, the squares of the center, and the municipal sports facilities. The road race starts and ends in Piazza Guglielmo II.
Sports Fest activities and exhibitions are free for the public. Registration for the Per le vie di Monreale road race is required through FIDAL-affiliated clubs.
