A Sports Celebration Open to the Whole City

The Sport Festival is the event that closes the Sport and Wellness Week in Vignola, a town in the province of Modena on the Panaro river, famous for its cherries. Organized by the Municipality of Vignola through the Office of Sport, Associations, and Twinning, with the involvement of over twenty local sports and volunteer associations and the collaboration of the AUSL District of Modena, the event transforms the Olimpia Swimming Centre and adjacent sports areas into a large village dedicated to movement, health, and togetherness for an entire weekend.

What Happens at the Sport Festival

The idea is simple and effective: to give everyone the chance to try dozens of disciplines in one place for free. Between the Swimming Centre's park, the pool's parking area, and the adjacent green spaces (including tennis and football courts), information points and activity areas alternate, where Vignola's associations present their work.

• Team and Individual Sports: volleyball, basketball and mini-basketball, youth football, tennis, archery, swimming, and scuba diving.
• Martial Arts and Dance: demonstrations, open classes, and performances by local dance schools.
• Strategy Games: chess tournaments and educational activities in the park.
• Wellness and Health: workshops for children and families, blood pressure and oxygen saturation tests, resuscitation and defibrillator use demonstrations by health volunteer associations.

The Sport Passport

One of the most popular ideas is the Sport Passport: you pick it up at the entrance to the Swimming Centre park, try the activities offered by the associations, and collect stamps. Those who complete the passport and present it at the collection point receive a nice gadget. It's a fun way to encourage both adults and children to try new disciplines.

Not Just Sport

The day is enriched by food stalls managed by the associations themselves, offering local specialities like crescentine, cured meats, and borlenghi, and by the unmissable evening festivities: dance performances with international dance champions and the evocative closing torchlight procession in the Olympic pool. The programme also includes a walk of about 10 km through the Vignola countryside, designed to combine sport, nature, and conviviality.
