The historic snail festival in the heart of Spicchio, a village in Vinci
When late June arrives in Spicchio-Sovigliana, a village in the municipality of Vinci (Province of Florence, Tuscany), everyone knows it is time for the Snail Festival. Reaching its 48th edition in 2026, this event has become a classic of the Lower Valdarno summer. Born from popular initiative and carried forward with passion by the volunteers of the Casa del Popolo di Spicchio APS, with the patronage of the Municipality of Vinci, it is one of those village festivals that captures the most authentic soul of Tuscany.
The dish that gives the festival its name is, of course, the snail, prepared in a stew according to ancient local recipes passed down through generations. However, the food stand's menu goes much further: you will find an exceptional grill featuring steaks, sausages, pork ribs (rosticciane), rabbit, and cockerel, along with pasta dishes like tortellini and penne with meat sauce. To top it all off, enjoy Chianti from Dianella, produced right on the hills of Vinci. The kitchen opens every evening at 7:30 PM.
The Snail Festival also offers many evenings of entertainment. Parco dei Mille hosts dance nights with the best orchestras, ballroom dancing, dance school performances, Latin American and Caribbean dances, as well as live music. There are also plenty of activities for younger visitors and games for all ages. The festival intertwines with the rich summer calendar of Vinci, which, during the same period, offers theater, the Music Festival, and topical discussions.
Among the novelties of the 2026 edition is the 1st Festival Trophy, a running race scheduled for Tuesday, June 23. Tuesday, June 30, features a walk organized by AVIS and the presentation of the Golden Snail, a symbolic award linked to the event. The festival thus confirms its dual vocation: a culinary feast and an opportunity for social and sporting gathering for the entire community of Vinci and its surroundings.
Admission to the Snail Festival is free: you only pay for what you consume at the stand. It is the perfect opportunity to discover a genuine corner of Tuscany, far from mass tourism circuits, just a few kilometers from the village of Vinci, birthplace of Leonardo, and immersed in the hilly landscape of Montalbano.
