About Sparone Folk Festival

For nearly a month, the Sparone Folk Festival and the Mac Bosc Agricultural and Forestry Exhibition bring the small town of Sparone, nestled in the Soana Valley in the heart of the Piedmontese Canavese, to life. Organized by the local Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality and the Piedmont Region, the event blends evenings of Piedmontese folk and ballroom music with themed dinners featuring the famous bagna cauda, alongside a major exhibition dedicated to mountain agriculture and forestry, complete with livestock displays, lumberjack demonstrations, and awards ceremonies. A spring highlight that celebrates the identity of the Gran Paradiso valleys.

The Sparone Folk Festival in the heart of the Canavese

Every spring, the town of Sparone, a small village in the Soana Valley in the province of Turin, in north-western Piedmont, transforms for nearly a month into a hub for enthusiasts of folk traditions, mountain music, and rural culture. The Sparone Folk Festival and Mac Bosc Agricultural and Forestry Exhibition is a historic event organized by the Sparone Pro Loco with the patronage of the Municipality, the Piedmont Region, and Unpli, bringing together two deeply rooted local events under one banner.

Two souls: the folk festival and the Mac Bosc exhibition

The event weaves together two distinct traditions. On one hand, the Sparone Folk Festival, the flagship evening dedicated to Piedmontese folk music and dance, featuring valley groups, mountain choirs, and singers performing the regional popular repertoire, hosted by well-known figures such as Sonia De Castelli and Marco Zeta. On the other, the Mac Bosc Agricultural and Forestry Exhibition, now in its 24th year, a day entirely dedicated to the world of mountain farming and forestry.

The Mac Bosc Exhibition: the woods and the animals

The heart of the Mac Bosc Exhibition is the promotion of forestry work and mountain livestock farming. The program includes:

  • Exhibition and awards for livestock raised in the valleys
  • Cableway demonstrations and timber processing with mobile sawmills
  • Wood carving and lumberjack games
  • The traditional blessing of the animals
  • The "Rundunà", a convivial gathering for the Sparone community

Gastronomy and bagna cauda

The food pavilion is one of the event's main attractions. Throughout the evenings, themed dinners take place, including the unmissable fish nights, menus featuring porchetta and chips, the Lumberjack's Dinner, and above all, the famous bagna cauda dinner, a symbolic dish of Piedmontese tradition, served on the night of the folk festival. There is also a pizzeria and plenty of entertainment with dance orchestras, DJ sets, and live shows.

An event for the whole community

For nearly three weeks, from the pavilion set up at the Sparone sports field, the Pro Loco offers a packed calendar of events: from ballroom orchestra concerts to revival shows, and from conscript reunions to the evenings dedicated to the marghè (the cowherds of the Canavese). The event is a precious opportunity to discover the authenticity of the Gran Paradiso valleys and the hospitality of a mountain community deeply tied to its roots.
