Eight days of music, traditions, and flavors in the tuff-stone village of the Tuscan Maremma
Every year, between late April and early May, the village of Sorano, in the province of Grosseto, hosts the Spring Festival, one of the most beloved events in the Tuscan Maremma. Born from a desire to celebrate the arrival of spring and the flavors of rural tradition, the festival has established itself over the years as an unmissable appointment for local residents and the many visitors who flock to this corner of Tuscany carved into the tuff.
Sorano stands on a spur of tuff rock overlooking the Lente River valley, in the heart of the Area del Tufo, between Pitigliano and Sovana. Its narrow streets, houses carved directly into the rock, and above all the evocative Etruscan Vie Cave—deep paths cut into the tuff—provide a stunning backdrop for the event. The festival thus becomes an opportunity to rediscover the historical and natural heritage of this stretch of the Maremma, bordering the Lazio region.
The beating heart of the festival is Piazza Busatti, where food stalls are set up for lunch and dinner, offering local culinary specialties, alongside a craft market and play areas for children with inflatables. Evenings are enlivened by live concerts featuring local bands, while the days are filled with Renaissance drum performances, flag-waver and majorette displays, and musical accompaniment by the "Giuseppe Verdi" Band of Sorano.
One of the most characteristic aspects of the Spring Festival is its charitable dimension. The event hosts a charity lottery with dozens of prizes, the proceeds of which are donated to local social and heritage-protection associations, such as the Red Cross, AVIS, and the Custodi delle Vie Cave. It is a tangible way to combine celebration with a commitment to the community.
Amidst scents, joy, and ancient flavors, the Sorano Spring Festival is the ideal opportunity to experience the most authentic Tuscan Maremma, away from the more crowded tourist circuits. The combination of gastronomy, music, traditions, and landscape makes this event perfect for families, history buffs, and lovers of picturesque villages.
The 15th edition of the Spring Festival brought eight days of events to Sorano between late April and early May 2026. Piazza Busatti hosted food stalls, a craft market, and children's activities, while the Piazza del Municipio hosted the motor rallies.
Highlights of the first weekend included the opening with live music, the "Dall'Etruria alla Tuscia" motorcycle rally, a performance by the "Giuseppe Verdi" Band of Sorano with majorettes, a sports car exhibition, and the guided walk "Through the alleys and Vie Cave of Sorano".

Sorano can be reached by car via the SS74 Maremmana; it is about an hour's drive from Grosseto. The nearest train stations are Albinia or Orvieto, from which you can continue by bus. During the festival, the historic center is pedestrianized: it is recommended to park near the Fortezza Orsini.
Access to the event is free; food stalls and some activities require payment for consumption.
We recommend combining your visit with a tour of the Vie Cave, the Fortezza Orsini, and the nearby villages of Pitigliano and Sovana. Please consult the organizers for the updated program.
