The grand summer festival of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in the heart of Bruneck
The Bruneck Volunteer Fire Brigade Summer Festival, known in German as the Sommerfest der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Bruneck, is one of the most cherished summer events in the city and the entire Puster Valley. Every year, during the central weekend of August, the lush Tschurtschenthalerpark in the center of Bruneck comes alive with food stalls, musical stages, and activities for all ages. The event is organized by the Bruneck Volunteer Fire Brigade, an institution deeply rooted in the local community for over a century and a half.
The festival spans three days, from Friday to Sunday, featuring a program that alternates between concerts by South Tyrolean bands, traditional brass ensembles, and popular entertainment groups. Visitors can enjoy authentic South Tyrolean cuisine—from dumplings to grilled dishes, and strudel to local craft beer—all served at stalls managed by volunteers. Dedicated entertainment and games are provided for children, making the event perfect for the whole family.
Bruneck, the main hub of the Puster Valley in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (Trentino-South Tyrol), is a predominantly German-speaking city, and the festival reflects this bilingual identity: the announcements, the names of the musical groups, and the overall vibe recall the tradition of Tyrolean Sommerfeste. The involvement of the volunteer firefighters, the backbone of local safety and community life, gives the festival a strong sense of solidarity and shared purpose.
With its genuine and welcoming atmosphere, the Bruneck Fire Brigade Summer Festival has become a classic of the South Tyrolean summer, bringing together residents, vacationers, and tourists visiting the Dolomites and the Plan de Corones ski area. Admission is free, and the festival also serves as a great opportunity to support the work of the city's volunteer firefighters.
From August 14 to 16, 2026, the Tschurtschenthalerpark in Bruneck hosts the Volunteer Fire Brigade Summer Festival, which this year celebrates the 162nd anniversary of the corps. On Friday and Saturday, the festival continues from 11:00 AM until midnight, while on Sunday it concludes in the afternoon, around 4:00 PM.
The program includes numerous performances by South Tyrolean groups and popular music and dance ensembles. Among the announced guests:
The volunteer-run stalls offer traditional South Tyrolean dishes, desserts, and draft beer, while dedicated entertainment is provided for children. Admission is free.
