The open-air theatre festival in Palo del Colle
Sipario sul Colle is the young open-air theatre festival that brings life to the summer in Palo del Colle, a town in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Apulia. Established in 2025, the event is designed as a meeting point between performing arts and the beauty of the local landscape: performances take place at sunset, when the Murgia countryside serves as a natural backdrop to the stage.
The heart of the festival is Spazio Antigone, located in Contrada Belvedere, an open-air venue immersed in nature that offers a striking setting and expansive views. The choice of an intimate location with limited seating is an integral part of the project: here, the audience experiences theatre up close, in direct contact with the actors. Due to the limited capacity, advance booking is mandatory.
The second edition kicked off on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 8:30 PM, with the opening performance «Edipo stanco», written by and starring Marco Grossi. This is an intense dramaturgical rewrite that reinterprets the Theban myth through the lens of commedia dell'arte, returning the theatrical mask to its most ancient roots and presenting the Oedipus saga with renewed expressive power.
The festival debuted in the summer of 2025, receiving significant acclaim from both audiences and critics. From its inception, Sipario sul Colle has chosen to promote the region by combining performing arts with the beauty of the landscape, quickly establishing itself as a significant date in the Apulian summer cultural calendar.
Located just a few kilometres from the regional capital, Palo del Colle is a village in the province of Bari known for its historic centre, the tradition of the Palio del Viccio, and a vibrant cultural scene. Sipario sul Colle integrates into this identity, offering residents and visitors the chance to discover the town in a different light: as an open-air theatre.
With its intimate format and high-quality programming, Sipario sul Colle stands out as an emerging force in the theatrical landscape of the Metropolitan City of Bari, capable of blending artistic research, attention to the landscape, and local community engagement.
