A day of wine, olive oil, and the flavours of the Montalbano region in the historic village of Serravalle Pistoiese
Serravalle DeGusto - Flavours of the Montalbano is the food and wine event that transforms the medieval village of Serravalle Pistoiese, in the province of Pistoia, into a grand showcase of local flavours every April 25th. The event is promoted by the Strada dell'Olio e del Vino del Montalbano - Colline di Leonardo, in collaboration with the Municipality of Serravalle Pistoiese and the Arci Club of Serravalle Paese, with the patronage of the Province of Pistoia and the Tuscany Region.
The event celebrates the food and wine traditions of the Montalbano, the hilly area stretching between Pistoia, Prato, and Florenceโa landscape of olive groves and vineyards often depicted in the paintings and drawings of Leonardo da Vinci, who was born in nearby Vinci. Wines, extra virgin olive oil, cheeses, and local products tell the authentic story of this corner of Tuscany.
Food and wine stalls line the stone alleys of the village, offering guided tastings of wines and local products from the Montalbano, sampling counters, direct sales, and street food options. A special highlight is the presence of stalls featuring Abruzzo products, such as arrosticini, brought by representatives from the Municipality of Capistrello, which has shared a bond of friendship with Serravalle for over half a century.
The day is brought to life by live music, photography exhibitions, and performances by the Compagnia dell'Orso flag-wavers and drummers, who recreate the medieval atmosphere of the village. Guided tours are also available through the towers and historic alleys of Serravalle Pistoiese, one of the most characteristic villages in the Pistoia area.
There is plenty for families and children to enjoy, including archery, pony rides, tennis open days, and medieval games inspired by the Palio di San Lodovico. It is a programme designed to involve visitors of all ages in one big village celebration.
The event runs from 11:00 AM until sunset. To facilitate access to the village, a free shuttle bus service operates from Masotti and Ponte di Serravalle during event hours. The event is often preceded by a preview evening, "Aspettando... Serravalle DeGusto" (Waiting for... Serravalle DeGusto), held at the Arci Club with tastings by reservation.
The 2026 edition, the fourth of the event, brought the medieval village of Serravalle Pistoiese to life with food and wine tastings, street food, live music, photography exhibitions, and guided tours among towers and historic alleys. Among the highlights were performances by the Compagnia dell'Orso flag-wavers and drummers, archery trials, pony rides, a tennis open day, and medieval games. A special feature this year was the participation of the Abruzzo Municipality of Capistrello, with a delegation of miners, commemorating a friendship that has linked the two towns for over half a century.
By train: Serravalle Pistoiese station (Masotti) on the Pistoia-Lucca line, with regional connections. By car: from Pistoia or Montecatini Terme, follow signs for Serravalle Pistoiese; the historic village is accessible from the valley floor.
Free shuttle bus service from Masotti and Ponte di Serravalle, operating approximately from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM to reach the village.
The event takes place on April 25th from 11:00 AM until sunset. Admission to the event is free; tastings and samples at the stalls are paid.
