Two hundred years of music in the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Feletto
In 2026, the Serassi organ in the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Feletto, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the heart of the Canavese, reaches an extraordinary milestone: its two hundredth anniversary. Built around 1826 by the famous Serassi workshop in Bergamo, one of the most important dynasties of organ builders in Italian musical history, the instrument is considered a true masterpiece of craftsmanship and a treasure of the Piedmontese musical heritage.
To celebrate the occasion, the Associazione Organistica del Canavese, in close collaboration with Antichi Organi del Canavese and the Parish of Feletto, has organized a prestigious evening concert. The 19th-century instrument will be played by organist Paolo Tarizzo, a specialist in the restoration and performance of historic instruments, who will offer a journey through time via the works of the great masters of organ literature.
The musical program spans different eras and schools: from the Iberian pages of Juan Bautista Cabanilles to the French refinement of François Couperin, from the depth of Johann Sebastian Bach and his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach to the 19th-century Italian organ tradition represented by Padre Davide da Bergamo and Vincenzo Petrali. A repertoire designed to showcase the full tonal and dynamic range of the instrument, perfectly suited to revive the sound that has accompanied the Feletto community for two centuries.
The initiative is supported by the patronage of the Diocese of Ivrea, the Metropolitan City of Turin, and the Associazione Giuseppe Serassi, the reference body for the study and protection of organs built by the historic family. The celebration is an opportunity to rediscover the value of the ancient organs of the Canavese and to restore to the area an awareness of a musical heritage that is as fragile as it is precious. More than just a concert, it is a celebration for the community of Feletto and the entire Canavese region, centered on an instrument that, after two hundred years, continues to make the nave of the parish church vibrate.
The Serassi organ bicentenary concert took place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 9:00 PM in the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Feletto. The star of the evening was organist Paolo Tarizzo, who brought the 1826 instrument to life before a community gathered to celebrate two hundred years of one of the most precious organs in the Canavese region.
