About Sègra de Sèn Florian

The Sègra de Sèn Florian is a traditional festival in Alba di Canazei, Val di Fassa, celebrating Saint Florian, the patron saint invoked against fires. Three days of festivities organized by the Grop de la Mescres, featuring live music in the marquee, traditional Ladin cuisine, children's games, Holy Mass, and a solemn parade of local folk groups through the village streets.

The Sègra de Sèn Florian, a Ladin tradition in Canazei

The Sègra de Sèn Florian is one of the most cherished folk festivals in Val di Fassa, held in Alba di Canazei, a hamlet of the municipality of Canazei, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). The event celebrates Saint Florian, the patron saint invoked as a protector against fires and a symbolic figure deeply rooted in Alpine and Ladin tradition. For three days, the community of Dèlba and Penìa gathers under the large marquee set up along Strèda de Parèda, in a joyful atmosphere that blends faith, gastronomy, and music.

The Grop de la Mescres, the soul of the festival

The festival is organized by the Grop de la Mescres de Cianacei e Gries, a volunteer association that also preserves and passes down one of the oldest and most evocative celebrations in the Alps: the Ladin Carnival. It is these volunteers who bring the event to life, managing the hospitality, the kitchen, and the entire organizational machine. The Sègra thus represents a moment of strong community identity, where the Ladin roots of the valley are renewed year after year.

Music, cuisine, and games under the marquee

The heart of the festival is the food marquee, where traditional Ladin and Trentino dishes are served in a convivial atmosphere. Each evening is accompanied by live music, with bands and quartets entertaining the public until late, while during the day, the space opens up to games for children. There is no shortage of moments dedicated to traditional Alpine music, such as accordion gatherings, which are very popular among enthusiasts.

The Sunday of tradition

The most solemn moment is the final day: it begins with Holy Mass, followed by the evocative parade that winds through the village streets from the church to the marquee. Numerous local folk groups take part in the procession, including the Musega Auta Fascia, the Grop Folclor de Cianacei, the Grop La Paic Marmolèda, the Grop de la Mèscres de Cianacei e Gries, and the Studafech de Cianacei. After the aperitif and the community lunch, the afternoon continues with performances, games, and musical entertainment until evening, closing the festival in the spirit of community.
