The grand sea festival of Mola di Bari, featuring grilled octopus and free concerts along the seafront
Some events define the summer for an entire town: in Mola di Bari, on the Adriatic coast of the Metropolitan City of Bari, that moment is known as the Sea Festival, or more popularly, the Octopus Festival. In 2026, the event reaches its 51st edition, cementing its status as one of Puglia's most beloved and representative celebrations, officially recognized as a Major Event by the Puglia Region.
For three days, from July 24 to 26, the Dalmazia seafront becomes the city's beating heart: grills are fired up, the scent of octopus cooking over the flames mingles with the sea breeze, and thousands of people fill the historic center and the harbor to take part in a collective ritual that blends gastronomy, music, and folk culture.
The true king of the festival is the octopus, the iconic product of Mola's maritime tradition. Along the seafront, you will find a succession of food stalls where you can taste octopus in all its forms, from grilled octopus to stewed versions, and even served in bread. Alongside the tastings, there is the traditional fish market, which tells the ancient story of the bond between Mola and its sea—a relationship built on fishing, boats, and knowledge passed down through generations.
The heart of the evening entertainment is the Palco di Mare, set up on the seafront, where free-entry concerts take place every night. The artistic direction is entrusted to La Compagnia del Trullo, which collaborates with the Municipal Administration to create a lineup that appeals to diverse audiences: from contemporary singer-songwriters to electronic music and the traditional sounds of Puglia's folk music.
The 2026 edition brings a high-profile program to Mola, featuring Dargen D'Amico, Venerus, and Antonio Castrignanò with his Taranta Sounds project, which reimagines the pizzica and Salento traditions in a contemporary key. It is a balance designed to bring together young people, families, and visitors spending their summer holidays on the Bari coast.
The Sea Festival is more than just music and food: over the years, the event has enriched its program with art exhibitions, craft markets, boat and SUP excursions from the harbor, special openings of historic churches, and meetings dedicated to the sea and its culture. It is a widespread celebration that involves the squares, palaces, and alleys of Mola di Bari's historic center, offering a complete experience for those visiting from out of town.
Attending the Octopus Festival means experiencing the most authentic side of Puglia, where seaside villages open up to the world in summer without losing their identity. Between a taste of grilled octopus and a concert under the stars, the Sea Festival of Mola di Bari offers the truest image of the Adriatic summer: popular, generous, and deeply connected to its sea.
The 2026 edition celebrates the 51st anniversary of the Sea Festival of Mola di Bari with three days of grand festivities on the Dalmazia seafront. The musical heart is the Palco di Mare, where free-entry concerts take place every evening, while along the seafront, food stalls offer grilled octopus and other specialties of the Mola maritime tradition. The artistic direction is entrusted to La Compagnia del Trullo in collaboration with the Municipality of Mola di Bari.
Throughout the event, along the Dalmazia seafront, grilled octopus stalls, seafood specialty tastings, and the traditional fish market will be active.
