The Adelfia Fish Festival: A grand seaside night in Piazza Roma

Every summer, in the heart of Adelfia—a town in the province of Bari, Puglia—Piazza Roma transforms into the stage for one of the most anticipated events on the local calendar: the Fish Festival, affectionately dubbed 'The Night of the Fish'. It is an evening where the aroma of fried seafood mingles with live music and the festive chatter of the community, gathering outdoors to celebrate the flavors of the Adriatic and Apulian culinary tradition.

Purely Apulian seaside street food

The heart of the festival lies in the food stalls, where fresh fish from the Apulian coast is prepared according to traditional recipes with a touch of innovation. Signature dishes include mixed fried seafood, mussels 'alla tarantina', grilled cuttlefish, calamari, seafood salads, fish-based pasta dishes, and gourmet sandwiches, all paired with local white wine and craft beers. It is a true journey through the flavors of the sea, designed for families, young people, and visitors from neighboring towns.

Music, pizzica, and entertainment

Beyond the gastronomy, the evening offers a rich entertainment program: live concerts, folk music, pizzica and tambourines, comedy shows, and activities for all ages. The square stays vibrant until late at night, featuring local artists and the rhythms of Salento and Puglia in an atmosphere of shared joy.

A tradition linked to the feast of San Vittoriano

The Fish Festival is part of the patronal festivities of San Vittoriano, venerated in the Canneto district, one of the two historic centers that merged in 1927 to form the current town of Adelfia. While the religious devotion reaches its peak during the procession on July 27th, the festival represents the popular and convivial soul of the event, drawing thousands of people to Piazza Roma. An event that, edition after edition—having surpassed eighty years—continues to renew the bond between Adelfia, its sea, and its traditions.

The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced. As per tradition, the Fish Festival is expected to return in July, coinciding with the patronal festivities.
