About ScrittuRa Festival Bagnacavallo

ScrittuRa Festival is the travelling literary review that every May brings writers, ideas, and books to the cultural venues of Ravenna and Bassa Romagna. In Bagnacavallo, in the province of Ravenna, the festival stops with its free entry meetings with authors. Directed by writer Matteo Cavezzali, the event combines book presentations, dialogues, and staged readings, offering the public the chance to meet the protagonists of Italian and international narrative up close.

A widespread literary festival in the heart of Romagna

ScrittuRa Festival is one of the most beloved literary reviews in Emilia-Romagna, capable of transforming the squares, libraries, theaters, and museums of Ravenna and Bassa Romagna into meeting places between authors and readers every May. The festival, directed by the Ravenna-based writer Matteo Cavezzali, is travelling: in addition to Ravenna and Lugo, it reaches several municipalities in the area, including Alfonsine, Castel Bolognese, Cotignola, Fusignano, Sant'Agata sul Santerno, and Bagnacavallo.

The Bagnacavallo stop

Bagnacavallo, a refined village in the province of Ravenna known for its famous elliptical Piazza Nuova, hosts one or more festival events each year. The meetings take place in symbolic cultural locations of the town, such as the cloister of the Biblioteca Taroni or the Arena Cinema delle Cappuccine, where authors engage in dialogue with the public, presenting their latest books. It is a precious opportunity for those living in this corner of Emilia-Romagna to hear prominent voices from the literary scene live, without having to travel to larger cities.

What makes ScrittuRa special

  • Always free entry: all meetings are free access, subject to availability.
  • Distinguished guests: over the years, the festival has brought Strega Prize winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, and internationally renowned authors to Romagna.
  • Varied format: not just book presentations, but also dialogues, staged readings, and performances.
  • A Junior section dedicated to young people and schools.

An event for the territory

The strength of ScrittuRa Festival lies in its widespread nature: bringing great literature to even the smallest municipalities in Bassa Romagna, enhancing their cultural spaces. For Bagnacavallo, the stop represents a moment of cultural vibrancy that fits into the festival's rich tradition, now a benchmark for readers throughout the province of Ravenna.
