About Scritto Misto

Scritto Misto is a traveling literary and musical festival in the Pinerolo valleys, organized by the Fondazione Centro Culturale Valdese. Every summer, between July and August, writers, journalists, and musicians bring the villages and most picturesque corners of Usseaux, Fenestrelle, and Perosa Argentina to life. In Usseaux, the events find an exceptional setting at Lake Laux, where books, words, and notes engage in a dialogue with the alpine landscape of the Chisone Valley, in the province of Turin.

A festival of books, music, and mountains

The Scritto Misto Literature and Music Festival is one of the most beloved summer cultural events in the Pinerolo valleys, in the province of Turin. Established in 2015 and organized by the Fondazione Centro Culturale Valdese in Torre Pellice, the festival offers a traveling itinerary that blends literature with music, ranging from classical repertoires to the traditions of the Occitan and Waldensian valleys.

Usseaux and Lake Laux

Among the municipalities hosting the event, Usseaux holds a special place. Considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, the town hosts literary meetings in its hamlets and, most notably, on the shores of Lake Laux, a body of water nestled among the woods of the Chisone Valley. In this alpine setting, book presentations, readings, and concerts take on an intimate and cozy atmosphere, far from the large city stages.

A dialogue between words and notes

The formula of Scritto Misto is exactly what gives the festival its name: each event mixes a book presentation or a dialogue with an author with a musical performance. Over the years, writers, historians, and journalists from the national and Piedmontese scene have alternated with musicians, choirs, and chamber ensembles linked to the territory. The program ranges from fiction to historical non-fiction, from the memory of the valleys to major current affairs.

The 2026 edition: HUMAN/INHUMAN

The 12th edition, scheduled from July 11 to August 2, 2026, revolves around the theme HUMAN/INHUMAN, a common thread that will run through the meetings in Usseaux, Fenestrelle, and Perosa Argentina. As every year, the festival invites writers and musicians to reflect on a shared theme, weaving contemporary thought with the historical and cultural memory of these mountains.

A territory to discover

Participating in Scritto Misto also means discovering a lesser-known corner of Piedmont: the Chisone Valley, its stone hamlets, the murals of Usseaux, the majestic Fenestrelle Fortress, and the landscapes of the Municipality of Usseaux. The festival is designed for a curious audience that loves to combine culture with slow tourism and the open air of the mountains.
