The Schiticchio d'Autunno is a food and wine festival that brings the historic center of San Piero Patti to life every November. This charming village is nestled in the Nebrodi mountains, in the province of Messina, Sicily. The local dialect term schiticchio, which once referred to a moment of rest, now evokes a light, joyful meal shared with friends and familyโa name that perfectly captures the convivial spirit of the event.
The festival celebrates autumnal flavors in honor of the Feast of Saint Martin, the traditional time to taste the new wine. Gastronomic stands and local wineries are set up along the village streets and squares, offering seasonal delicacies:
Everything is rooted in the philosophy of local, high-quality produce from the Nebrodi area.
Beyond the culinary delights, the Schiticchio d'Autunno features craft markets, musical entertainment, folklore performances, and guided tours of the local oil mill and the village's historic monuments. The event also includes historical re-enactments tied to the town's medieval past, such as the portrayal of Frederick IV of Aragon and the evocative living lady, transporting visitors back through the centuries. A dedicated children's area makes this festival a perfect outing for the whole family.
Launched in 2022 by the Municipality of San Piero Patti, the event has become a highly anticipated autumn highlight in the Messina area. Visiting the festival is also the perfect opportunity to explore the village's historic center, its narrow alleys, and its monuments, all set within the stunning landscape of the Nebrodi Park.
