Art, tradition, and flavors under the stars in the historic center of Calatafimi-Segesta

In August 2025, the historic center of Calatafimi-Segesta, a village in the Trapani province famous for the nearby Segesta Archaeological Park, hosted the first edition of Scalinart. The initiative, promoted by the municipal administration and curated by the Associazione Cavalieri 360 APS, was born with the ambition of becoming a staple of the Trapani summer, capable of connecting the town's cultural, gastronomic, and social wealth.
The name itself reflects the spirit of the event: the characteristic stairways and alleys of the historic center are transformed into an open-air gallery, where art becomes widespread and accessible to everyone. For two evenings, the Sicilian village becomes a natural stage, animated by itinerant performances and installations.
The Scalinart route combines various expressive languages. Along the streets of the center, you will find photographic exhibitions dedicated to the local area and traditions, decorated Sicilian carts that recall the island's craftsmanship, street performers who enliven the alleys, and live music. There is also space for crafts and creativity, in a continuous dialogue between popular memory and new artistic forms.
The gastronomic heart of the event is the Cassatedda Festival, which takes place in conjunction with Scalinart. The cassatedda (or cassatella) is a traditional Sicilian pastry made of fried dough filled with ricotta and chocolate chips, deeply linked to the identity of the Trapani territory. During the festival, there is a dedicated station for celiacs, a sign of the attention paid to the inclusion of all visitors. Tastings are accompanied by local wines to be savored at sunset.
Among the most evocative offerings is the astronomical observation from Castello Eufemio, the ancient fortress that dominates the village: an opportunity to admire the Sicilian summer sky in a setting of great historical charm. The combination of tastings, art, and contemplation of the sky gives full meaning to the subtitle chosen by the organizers: "art, tradition, and flavors under the stars".
With its first edition, Scalinart aimed to showcase Calatafimi-Segesta as an example of resilience and cultural attraction, enhancing a historic center often off the beaten path of Western Sicily's tourist circuits. The organizers hope to consolidate the event in the years to come as a defining moment for the community and for visitors.
The dates for the 2026 edition of Scalinart and the Cassatedda Festival have not yet been made official. Based on the first edition, held on August 9 and 10, 2025, the event is expected to return on evenings in early August in the historic center of Calatafimi-Segesta, with the usual blend of exhibitions, Sicilian carts, street performers, live music, and tastings of the ricotta cassatedda. The detailed program will be communicated by the Associazione Cavalieri 360 APS and the Municipality in the months preceding the event.
