Four Sundays of music dedicated to the saxophone in the historic settings of Alatri
The Saxophone Festival is an event that brings the voice of the saxophone to the ancient stones of Alatri every May, one of the most evocative villages in the Province of Frosinone, in the Lazio region. Created to introduce the general public to the infinite nuances of this instrument, the festival spans four consecutive Sundays, each hosted in a landmark location of the city: from the courtyards of noble palaces to cloisters, and from historic squares to monumental halls.
The artistic project, curated by masters Luca Cecconi and Valentino Catallo, has a clear mission: to provide a platform for young local talents alongside internationally acclaimed professionals. The program features saxophone quartets, chamber duos, youth ensembles, and multimedia experiences, in a journey that ranges from classical music to jazz, and from original arrangements to contemporary compositions. The saxophone, a relatively young instrument with surprising expressive potential, thus becomes the common thread connecting different repertoires and audiences.
Located in the historic Ciociaria region, Alatri is famous for its imposing Acropolis and its pre-Roman megalithic walls, which are among the best-preserved in Italy. The festival concerts take place within this very setting, where music engages in a dialogue with the architecture and history of the village. The festival, promoted by the Municipality of Alatri, has established itself as one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Ciociaria spring, attracting music lovers, conservatory students, and curious visitors alike.
Thanks to free admission, the Saxophone Festival is designed to be an accessible and inclusive event, bringing classical music to a wide and diverse audience. Each concert is preceded by brief listening introductions, helping spectators discover anecdotes, curiosities, and secrets of the saxophone repertoire. It is the perfect opportunity to combine the discovery of a territory rich in history with the pleasure of a great live music evening.
The 2026 edition, the fourth, confirmed the festival's winning formula: four Sunday concerts, always at 6:30 PM, set in as many iconic locations of Alatri. Promoted by the Municipality of Alatri with the artistic direction of masters Luca Cecconi and Valentino Catallo, the festival brought the freshness of young performers into dialogue with the experience of established professionals to showcase all the possibilities of the saxophone.
From chamber duos to youth ensembles, from quartets to soloist formations, the program traversed different repertoires and styles, offering the Ciociaria public four evenings of live music with free admission.
