King Cicciolin, the Mask of Savona
The Savona Carnival revolves around the figure of King Cicciolin, the official mask of the city: a good-natured sailor with seven wives, a symbol of the popular and maritime soul of the provincial capital. His arrival from the sea traditionally opens the festivities, with the symbolic handover of the city keys by the mayor.
Parades and Masks in the Historic Center
For weeks, the historic center of Savona comes alive with parades, masks, and events for all ages, with the participation of guest groups and carnivals from the region. A colorful festival that blends tradition, satire, and fun, involving the entire city community.
From the Fleet to the Pentolaccia
Among the most characteristic moments are the arrival by sea of the Carnival "fleet" and, to close the festivities, the traditional Pentolaccia on Fat Tuesday. The Savona Carnival is one of the most cherished winter festivals in the city, capable of transforming the central squares into a grand stage of joy.
Savona Carnival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Savona Carnival confirmed the ritual of the arrival from the sea of King Cicciolin on January 18th, with the handover of the city keys to the mayor. In the following weeks, parades and masks animated the historic center, with the participation of guest groups and carnivals, including the Vecchia Loano. The closing, on February 22nd (Fat Tuesday), was entrusted to the traditional Pentolaccia.
