About Itinerary of Nativity Scenes

Every Christmas, the medieval village of Toirano transforms into an open-air museum: over 200 artistic nativity scenes dot the alleys of the historic center and hamlets, in an itinerary to be explored on foot through narrow streets, small squares, and hidden corners. Curated by the Ethnographic Museum of Val Varatella, the display accompanies residents and visitors from the beginning of December until Epiphany. A suggestive walk, with free admission and a map, to experience the magic of Christmas in one of the most beautiful villages in the Savona hinterland.

The village becomes a nativity scene

The Itinerary of Nativity Scenes is the Christmas event that annually transforms the medieval village of Toirano, in the province of Savona, into a large, widespread exhibition. Over 200 artistic nativity scenes are set up along the streets and characteristic alleys (caruggi) of the historic center, as well as in the hamlets of the municipality.

A walk through the alleys

A map guides visitors through the itinerary, among narrow streets, small squares, and hidden corners where the Nativity takes shape in a thousand interpretations. The event, non-competitive and with free admission, enhances the art of nativity scene creation and the architectural beauty of the village, offering authentic Christmas atmospheres.

An event curated by the museum

The display is curated by the Ethnographic Museum of Val Varatella with the patronage of the Municipality of Toirano, and accompanies the village from the beginning of December until January 6th. An opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating historic centers in the Savona hinterland, also known for the famous Toirano Caves, during the most magical time of the year.
