About Sapri Christmas Market

Every winter, the Lungomare Italia in Sapri, overlooking the Gulf of Policastro, transforms into a village of illuminated huts. These are the Christmas Markets managed by the Villaggio Commerciale Association, featuring local exhibitors, artisans, holiday decorations, gift ideas, and traditional Cilento products. Between a seaside stroll and browsing the stalls, visitors can enjoy bingo games, musical performances, children's entertainment, and Santa's house, all part of the official Christmas program of the Municipality of Sapri.

A village of huts by the sea

In Sapri, at the southern tip of the Province of Salerno, Christmas is celebrated outdoors, just a stone's throw from the water. Along Lungomare Italia, the promenade that follows the curve of the Gulf of Policastro, the Christmas Market huts are set up every winter by the Villaggio Commerciale Association: a row of illuminated stalls that welcomes residents and visitors from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception through to Epiphany. It is one of the most iconic images of winter in Sapri and one of the most popular Christmas events in the lower Cilento region.

What to find among the stalls

The Commercial Village was created as a showcase for local merchants, artisans, and small businesses, and this is evident as you wander through the huts: it is not an anonymous fair, but the town itself on display. The atmosphere is that of an evening stroll, with the sea on one side and the lights on the other.

  • Gift ideas and handcrafted items, from small DIY projects to local creativity;
  • Christmas ornaments and decorations for the tree and the home;
  • Local products and street food, featuring the flavors of Cilento cuisine and holiday sweets;
  • Entertainment for children, with Santa's house as a must-visit stop;
  • Music and bingo games, often organized in collaboration with the Pro Loco and local associations.

The Commercial Village within Sapri's festive program

The markets are not an isolated event: they are the backbone of the Christmas program that the Municipality of Sapri, through its Department of Tourism, Entertainment, and Culture, builds every year together with the Pro Loco, parishes, schools, and local associations. Surrounding the huts on Lungomare Italia are concerts in city venues, choirs and youth orchestras, the living nativity scene, the arrival of the Befana, and the Magi parade through the town center. In short, those who come to Sapri for the market almost always find something extra already on the schedule.

Sapri, Cilento, and the Gulf of Policastro in winter

Sapri is the last town in Campania before the border with Basilicata, nestled between the mountains and the gulf, and it retains a strong maritime identity: its promenade and the Viale della Spigolatrice, linked to the famous verses by Luigi Mercantini, are the town's symbolic landmarks. In winter, Cilento empties of the summer crowds, and the holidays become the best time to visit: the seaside markets offer a unique visual contrast to classic alpine Christmas villages, with the lights reflecting on the water and a climate that is almost always mild.

Who it is for

It is a free, family-friendly market: it can be visited in an hour, but you can easily extend your evening with a bingo game, a concert, or dinner in one of the local restaurants. It is also a great base for those staying in the Gulf of Policastro or nearby towns looking for an evening outing during the holidays without traveling too far.

When to go

The reference period runs from early December to Epiphany. The busiest days are weekends and the days around the holidays, when the huts are accompanied by shows, live music, and children's entertainment. Since the calendar is published by the Municipality and the Villaggio Commerciale Association only shortly before opening, it is advisable to check the exact dates before setting off.

Sapri Christmas Market — edition 2026

For the 2026-2027 winter season, the Commercial Village on Lungomare Italia in Sapri does not yet have official dates: at the moment, neither the Municipality of Sapri nor the organizing association has published the calendar. In previous editions, the huts were set up between the first days of December and Epiphany, featuring crafts, local products, bingo games, and children's entertainment. The program is usually released in late November: it is advisable to check before planning your visit.

2026-2027 Edition: dates to be confirmed

If the event is proposed again as in previous years, the huts of the Villaggio Commerciale Association will return to the seaside promenade of the town in the Province of Salerno, with local exhibitors, gift ideas, decorations, and Cilento gastronomy, all within the broader municipal Christmas program consisting of concerts, bingo games, a living nativity scene, and Epiphany events.
