The charming wooden huts of the Commercial Village on Lungomare Italia, set between the Gulf of Policastro and festive lights.

In Sapri, at the southern tip of the Province of Salerno, Christmas is celebrated outdoors, just a stone's throw from the water. Along Lungomare Italia, the promenade that follows the curve of the Gulf of Policastro, the Christmas Market huts are set up every winter by the Villaggio Commerciale Association: a row of illuminated stalls that welcomes residents and visitors from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception through to Epiphany. It is one of the most iconic images of winter in Sapri and one of the most popular Christmas events in the lower Cilento region.
The Commercial Village was created as a showcase for local merchants, artisans, and small businesses, and this is evident as you wander through the huts: it is not an anonymous fair, but the town itself on display. The atmosphere is that of an evening stroll, with the sea on one side and the lights on the other.
The markets are not an isolated event: they are the backbone of the Christmas program that the Municipality of Sapri, through its Department of Tourism, Entertainment, and Culture, builds every year together with the Pro Loco, parishes, schools, and local associations. Surrounding the huts on Lungomare Italia are concerts in city venues, choirs and youth orchestras, the living nativity scene, the arrival of the Befana, and the Magi parade through the town center. In short, those who come to Sapri for the market almost always find something extra already on the schedule.
Sapri is the last town in Campania before the border with Basilicata, nestled between the mountains and the gulf, and it retains a strong maritime identity: its promenade and the Viale della Spigolatrice, linked to the famous verses by Luigi Mercantini, are the town's symbolic landmarks. In winter, Cilento empties of the summer crowds, and the holidays become the best time to visit: the seaside markets offer a unique visual contrast to classic alpine Christmas villages, with the lights reflecting on the water and a climate that is almost always mild.
It is a free, family-friendly market: it can be visited in an hour, but you can easily extend your evening with a bingo game, a concert, or dinner in one of the local restaurants. It is also a great base for those staying in the Gulf of Policastro or nearby towns looking for an evening outing during the holidays without traveling too far.
The reference period runs from early December to Epiphany. The busiest days are weekends and the days around the holidays, when the huts are accompanied by shows, live music, and children's entertainment. Since the calendar is published by the Municipality and the Villaggio Commerciale Association only shortly before opening, it is advisable to check the exact dates before setting off.
As of the update of this page, the dates for the Sapri Christmas Market for the 2026-2027 winter season have not been published. The Municipality of Sapri portal does not yet report any notices or posters regarding the Christmas village on Lungomare Italia, and no local source has released a calendar.
If the event is proposed again as in previous years, the huts of the Villaggio Commerciale Association will return to the seaside promenade of the town in the Province of Salerno, with local exhibitors, gift ideas, decorations, and Cilento gastronomy, all within the broader municipal Christmas program consisting of concerts, bingo games, a living nativity scene, and Epiphany events.
We will update this page as soon as the official calendar is announced.
By train: Sapri is served by the railway station on the southern Tyrrhenian line, which also stops for long-distance connections; from the station, Lungomare Italia can be reached on foot in a few minutes. By car: from the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo, take the Padula-Buonabitacolo exit and continue towards the Gulf of Policastro; along the coast, you arrive via the SS18.
Access to the huts on Lungomare Italia is free and open to the public. The stalls are active mainly in the afternoon and evening; some side events (bingo, workshops, shows) may have their own participation requirements.
The promenade is pedestrian and breezy: warm clothing is recommended, even with mild temperatures. On holidays, it is best to leave your car in parking areas outside the center and reach the market on foot.
