The market exhibition of traditional Lunigiana products in the historic center of Fivizzano
Sapori a Fivizzano is one of the most beloved and anticipated food and wine events in the entire Lunigiana region, the northernmost tip of Tuscany nestled between the Apennines, the Apuan Alps, Liguria, and Emilia. Every year, between late May and early June, the historic center of Fivizzano (in the province of Massa-Carrara) dresses up to host a grand market exhibition of typical and traditional products, drawing food lovers and curious visitors from across the region and beyond.
The setting is the evocative, fortified village of the Malaspina family: the famous Piazza Medicea with its fountain, Piazza del Teatro, Via Umberto I, and the alleys of the historic center become an open-air tasting trail. Fivizzano is part of the UNESCO MAB area of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, and this borderland identity is reflected in a rich, rustic cuisine deeply rooted in the land.
The stalls at the fair feature the best of local production, much of which holds protected status:
Sapori is not just a food fair: the program weaves together guided tastings, culinary workshops, show cooking, thematic conferences on food culture, demonstrations of ancient crafts, and folk performances. Evenings come alive with the Sapori Live Music series, while folk groups, bands, and musical ensembles accompany the days with popular and street music. The historic Cloister of the Augustinians and the municipal library host spaces dedicated to park products and wine tastings curated by qualified sommeliers.
Reaching its 23rd edition in 2026, the event is promoted by the Lunigiana Tourist Operators Association with the support of the Municipality of Fivizzano. More than just a simple festival, Sapori has become an identity-defining appointment that tells the gastronomic and cultural soul of an authentic territory, still largely untouched by mass tourism, which is precisely why it retains its charm intact.
The 23rd edition of Sapori a Fivizzano animated the historic center of the village from May 29 to June 2, 2026, confirming itself as one of the most anticipated spring events in Lunigiana. The market exhibition of typical products was distributed between Piazza Medicea, Piazza del Teatro, Via Umberto I, and other spaces in the center, featuring stalls of local excellence.
Alongside tastings and sales, the program offered conferences on food culture, workshops, demonstrations of ancient crafts, and a rich musical schedule. The Sapori Live Music series brought concerts to the square every evening, while folk groups and bands accompanied the days.
Official opening of the market exhibition on Saturday morning; stands remained open throughout the event.
By car: Fivizzano can be reached from the A15 Parma-La Spezia motorway (Aulla exit) and the A12 (Carrara or Sarzana exit), then continuing on the SS63 road of the Passo del Cerreto. During the event, the historic center is closed to traffic: it is recommended to use the parking lots on the outskirts of the village.
The reference station is Aulla Lunigiana (on the Pontremolese line), connected to Fivizzano by local bus services.
Access to the market exhibition and exhibition spaces is generally free; guided tastings and some workshops may require a contribution. It is recommended to check the updated program on official channels.
Arrive with an appetite and wear comfortable shoes for walking through the alleys; evenings can be cool due to the hilly altitude.
