The creativity festival of Carrara, a UNESCO Creative City
In the heart of the Apuan Tuscany, C/Art – Creatives in Dialogue is the festival that celebrates the creative soul of Carrara, in the province of Massa-Carrara. The city, world-renowned for its marble, has joined the UNESCO Creative Cities network for the crafts and folk arts category: C/Art is its most representative celebration, a weekend where art leaves the workshops and takes to the streets.
The festival takes place in the three historic districts of Cafaggio, Grazzano, and Baluardo, along the evocative via Carriona that runs alongside the Carrione river. Squares, bridges, churches, artist studios, and reclaimed spaces become settings for installations, exhibitions, and en plein air work. It is a journey to be experienced while strolling, where at every corner you meet an artist at work: ceramicists, mosaicists, sculptors, painters, musicians, designers, and videomakers.
The common thread is dialogue: C/Art brings together about one hundred Italian and international creatives, many of whom represent the various clusters of the UNESCO network (crafts, design, gastronomy, literature, cinema, music, media arts, and architecture). Over the years, artists have arrived from Spain, Egypt, Poland, Germany, Bosnia, Iceland, and China, giving life to a fertile exchange between different cultures and languages.
The symbolic moment of the festival is the Carrareccia, the large community dinner set up along via Carriona and the river, enlivened by artistic performances. It is an opportunity to savor the typical products of the Apuan territory — from the famous Lardo di Colonnata to tagliolini with beans — in a convivial atmosphere that unites residents, artists, and visitors.
Between craft demonstrations, a creative market, conferences, and debates, C/Art is much more than an event: it is an immersive experience in the creative vocation of Carrara and Tuscany. A free event open to everyone, designed for those who love authentic, handmade art shared in the streets of a city that is a symbol of Italian creativity.
On July 24 and 25, 2026, Carrara hosts the third edition of C/Art – Creatives in Dialogue, the creativity festival promoted by the Municipality as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities network. The historic districts of Cafaggio, Grazzano, and Baluardo will once again be filled with artists at work, performances, workshops, and installations, in a widespread route along via Carriona and the Carrione river.
This year, the festival once again brings together about one hundred Italian and international creatives — ceramicists, mosaicists, designers, musicians, videomakers — representing the various clusters of the UNESCO network, amidst live demonstrations and a high-quality creative market. The Carrareccia, the large community dinner with typical products of the Apuan territory, will also be featured.
The festival is spread over two days, Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, 2026, with artists working live, open studios, performances, creative workshops, and conferences in the districts of Cafaggio, Grazzano, and Baluardo.
Among the special projects of the 2026 edition is the public presentation of the LUCY – THE ORIGIN collection: thirty artists linked to Carrara create as many unique works starting from an identical white resin bust, reflecting on the themes of origin, identity, memory, the body, and the relationship between man, nature, and technology. The works are unveiled for the first time during C/Art.
The Carrareccia returns along via Carriona, the community dinner enlivened by artistic performances, featuring typical Apuan products.
The detailed daily program, with times and names of participating artists, will be published by the Municipality of Carrara in the weeks preceding the event.
