The historic trade fair of Torre Santa Susanna, blending agricultural tradition, culture, and entertainment
The Santa Susanna Fair is the most anticipated event of the year in Torre Santa Susanna, a small town in northern Salento in the province of Brindisi, Apulia. Every year, around May 1st, the town centre transforms into a large festival space: Largo Pozzi and Via Garibaldi host stalls, exhibitions, association stands, and a rich calendar of shows that blend the town's agricultural roots with a love for popular entertainment.
Born as a trade fair linked to the farming world, the Santa Susanna Fair has its origins in the local rural economy, based on olive and vine cultivation and the production of quality oil, wine, and cheese. Over its more than thirty editions, the event has progressively expanded, adding an antiques market, street performers, thematic exhibitions, and evening shows to the traditional display of agricultural products and machinery, becoming a landmark event for the entire Brindisi area.
The fair takes its name from Saint Susanna, a figure deeply linked to the town's identity: the characteristic tower that gives the town its name was built near an ancient Byzantine church dedicated to the Saint. The event preserves this spiritual bond through moments dedicated to religious tradition, such as theatrical readings of the Patron Saint's martyrology, weaving together culture, memory, and faith.
Alongside the trade fair aspect, the program features national comedy and music guests every year, performances by local dance schools, creative workshops for adults and children, and evening concerts that keep the squares lively until late at night. The Santa Susanna Fair thus manages to appeal to an intergenerational audience, combining the nostalgia of farming traditions with the energy of a contemporary festival.
Promoted and organized by the Santa Susanna Fair Committee, in collaboration with the Municipality of Torre Santa Susanna and under the patronage of the Province of Brindisi and the Apulia Region, the event is above all a moment of gathering for the community. Local volunteer associations set up their own stands, sharing the town's social activities, while free entry to all events makes the fair an accessible and participatory event, the beating heart of spring in Torre.
The 2026 edition, reaching the milestone of its 32nd edition, was held on May 1st and 2nd, confirming the formula that combines the historic trade exhibition with cultural and entertainment events. The event, with free admission, enlivened Largo Pozzi and Via Garibaldi with two days full of activities for all ages.
Friday, May 1st, the fair opened with the antiques market, featuring vintage objects and curiosities for collectors, and performances by the Asd Team Dance Alessia dance school. In the evening, the stage hosted Pino Campagna, a well-known face from Zelig, for a comedy show.
Saturday, May 2nd, the heart of the festival moved to Via Garibaldi, with local association stalls dedicated to social and volunteer activities, creative workshops for adults and children, and a theatrical reading on the Patron Saint's martyrology. A grand musical finale with a concert by Ipergalattici, in a journey through the most beloved cartoon theme songs.
