The Romagna festival dedicated to piadina in the historic center of Santarcangelo
Santa Piada is the food and wine event that every year, at the end of June, pays homage to the queen of the Romagna table: the piadina. The event takes place in the charming historic center of Santarcangelo di Romagna, the famous village of poets in the province of Rimini, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. For two days, the Municipality of Santarcangelo dresses up for a party and transforms squares, alleys, and tuff cellars into a large peasant village of yesteryear.
The common thread of the festival is the deep bond between piadina and Romagna peasant culture. The inhabitants come down to the square dressed as peasants, a real farm with animals and an agricultural market are set up, while the azdore โ the traditional Romagna housewives, guardians of gastronomic knowledge โ stretch the piada in front of the public. Accordions play at every corner, local wine flows, and waltzes under the stars are not to be missed.
The heart of the event is, of course, tasting: over thirty piadina variations are offered, distributed in food and wine stands and piadina shops. The formula favors quality and sustainability, promoting the local economy and short supply chains. There is also space for DOP and IGP products from the area, direct sales from local producers, and particular attention to the Piadina Romagnola IGP, recognizable by a special identification sticker.
Among the festival's protagonists is Frida Vasini, one of the most well-known Romagna azdore nationally and a television personality, who leads show cooking sessions and public meetings. The event also collaborates with the association ChefToChef Emilia Romagna Cuochi and the Consortium for the Promotion and Protection of Piadina Romagnola IGP. The program also includes:
With its tens of thousands of attendees, Santa Piada is now one of the most anticipated events of the Romagna summer. Organized by the association Cittร Viva, the festival combines a passion for good food with the rediscovery of popular traditions, in an authentic and convivial atmosphere that makes Santarcangelo, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna, the capital of piadina for an entire weekend.
The 2026 edition of Santa Piada, the fifth consecutive one, will be held on June 26 and 27, 2026, in the historic center of Santarcangelo di Romagna. The chosen theme is "A Journey into Taste", with a focus on tradition and innovation and the valorization of the local supply chain.
Compared to the past, the event deliberately reduces the number of stands to ten, focusing on quality, sustainability, and proximity economy. The presence of Frida Vasini with show cooking and public meetings is confirmed, as is the official stand of the Consortium for the Promotion and Protection of Piadina Romagnola IGP and the collaboration with ChefToChef Emilia Romagna Cuochi. On Friday evening, the festival comes alive with the Romagna folk music of Mia E Balli. Workshops on piadina for children and adults, guided tours, and an agricultural market are also planned.
Friday, June 26: opening of the food and wine stands in the historic center, agricultural market, farm with animals, azdore in costume stretching the piada; in the evening, Romagna folk music with Mia E Balli and waltzes under the stars.
Saturday, June 27: over 30 piadina variations, show cooking and meetings with Frida Vasini, stand of the Consortium Piadina Romagnola IGP, piadina workshops for children and adults, guided tours to discover Santarcangelo. The detailed hourly program will be published on the official event channels.
