The Sant'Enrico Festival is the most anticipated event of the year for Casal Monastero, a district in Rome's Fourth Municipality. Centered around the Sant'Enrico Parish on Viale Ratto delle Sabine, the festival celebrates its patron saint with a well-established format: several evenings of popular festivities followed, a week later, by a final day that blends sports and community spirit. It is not a major city-wide event, and that is precisely its charm: everything—from the kitchen to the decorations—is in the hands of parish volunteers and local families.
Evenings in the square
The secular heart of the festival lies in the open-air evenings within the parish grounds, where people dance, enjoy live music, and eat together. The food stalls managed by volunteers offer classic neighborhood festival fare—sandwiches, fries, cold beer—while the public enjoys traditional attractions:
- Lottery, charity raffle, and wheel of fortune, with prizes donated by local merchants
- Magic shows and theatrical performances organized by parish groups

The flower festival and solemn Mass

In recent years, the tradition of the infiorata (flower festival) has become a staple: guided by the parish vicar, local youth create floral compositions that are completed collectively, in an intergenerational collaboration involving grandparents, parents, and teenagers in the hours leading up to the blessing.
The solemn Mass remains the central moment: during the celebration, young people dressed in elaborate costumes perform the parade of virtues, accompanying the figure of Sant'Enrico, traditionally portrayed by a seminarian. Guests from the Diocese of Rome—auxiliary bishops and priests—regularly attend to participate in public discussions on current ecclesial and social issues, open to the entire neighborhood.
The Sant'Enrico Marathon
The final day is dedicated to running. The Sant'Enrico Marathon—organized in partnership with A.S.D. Atletico Casal Monastero under the name Corri Casal Monastero—is a competitive 10km road race. It starts and ends in front of the parish, following a loop entirely within the district. Now consistently attracting around three hundred runners, it has become a small classic in the Roman running calendar. Immediately after the competitive race, a fun run/walk takes place, open to everyone, allowing those who don't run to experience the festive streets of the neighborhood.
An open parish
The festival does not forget those in need: the parish Caritas sets up a suspended trolley in the festival area to collect food and essential goods for families in difficulty. It is a sign of the open parish model that diocesan priests often highlight on this very occasion.
Why visit
Those looking for the 'real' Rome—the one not found in guidebooks—will find one of its most sincere expressions here: a suburb of eastern Lazio that, for a few days, turns into a town square, a long dining table, and a dance floor. Admission is free, and the welcome is typical of community festivals, where no one stays on the sidelines for long.

The 2026 edition was marked by a special emotion: saying goodbye to Father Massimiliano after thirteen years of community life in Casal Monastero. Despite the farewell, the festivities were held as a great welcoming celebration filled with joy.
The first weekend, from June 5th to 7th, brought the neighborhood together around the parish on Viale Ratto delle Sabine. On Saturday, June 6th, at 5:00 PM, a meeting was held with the auxiliary bishop of Rome, Don Marco Valenti, moved up from the originally announced schedule. The three evenings were filled with music, dancing, food stalls managed by volunteers, a lottery, and prize games.
The infiorata (flower festival) was once again a major highlight, led by the parish vicar Don Simone: the youth created floral compositions that were finished collectively, in an intergenerational collaboration that involved the entire community. During the solemn Mass, the young people, in elaborate costumes, brought the parade of virtues to life, accompanying the figure of Sant'Enrico portrayed by the seminarian Alberto.
On Sunday, June 14th, at 8:30 AM, the event concluded with the Sant'Enrico Marathon: about three hundred athletes started the competitive road race of just over ten kilometers, followed by the fun run open to everyone. In the festival area, the parish Caritas set up the 'suspended trolley' for solidarity collections.
