The patronal feast of Castelguidone, blending faith, music, and tradition in Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi
The San Vito and Sant'Antonio Festival is the most anticipated event of the year in Castelguidone, a village of a few hundred inhabitants perched at an altitude of 775 meters in the Alto Vastese, in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo. The community celebrates its two patron saints, Saint Anthony of Padua (June 13) and Saint Vitus the Martyr (June 15), with a festival that weaves together religious devotion, folk tradition, and entertainment.
For three days, the town center comes alive with liturgical celebrations, solemn processions through the village streets with the statues of the saints, evening concerts, and social gatherings that attract numerous visitors from the surrounding Alto Vastese towns. The heart of the events is Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi, which hosts musical performances and festival gatherings.
The musical program is curated by the Castelguidone Cultural Association, in collaboration with the municipal administration, and features concerts and live shows that accompany the festive evenings. The celebrations invariably conclude with traditional fireworks that light up the village sky to the applause of the crowd, crowning a festival deeply rooted in the identity of the Castelguidone community.
Castelguidone, known in the local dialect as Lu Cuastรฌlle, is one of the smallest municipalities in the province of Chieti, nestled in the hilly landscape on the border between Abruzzo and Molise. The village has a few hundred inhabitants and spans a territory of just fourteen square kilometers, including the hamlets of Inforchia and Piane. The patronal feast is the occasion when the town, often quiet throughout the year, comes back to life and gathers around its roots, amidst faith, tradition, and conviviality.
Devotion to San Vito and Sant'Antonio has been intertwined with the life of the community for generations: the mid-June festivities are indeed the most defining appointment in the Castelguidone calendar, capable of bringing back those who live far away and renewing, year after year, the deep bond between the inhabitants and their patron saints.
The 2026 San Vito and Sant'Antonio Festival was held in Castelguidone from June 13 to 15. Three days of religious celebrations, processions through the village streets, and musical events in Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi drew numerous visitors from neighboring towns.
The grand finale featured a performance by the "L'Ottava Nota" choir from Anffas Vasto, directed by maestro Giorgia Loreto, who moved the audience with an engaging repertoire. Special guest of the evening was Tommaso Seccia from "I Cantori della Torre". The celebrations concluded with traditional fireworks that lit up the sky over Castelguidone to the applause of those present.
The main events are held in Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi, in the center of Castelguidone (CH), Abruzzo. Religious celebrations take place in the village's parish church.
Castelguidone can be reached by car from the Vasto Sud exit on the A14 motorway, continuing inland towards the Alto Vastese. The village is about 40 km from the Adriatic coast.
