Belmonte del Sannio celebrates its patron saint, since 1748
Nestled in the mountains of Alto Molise, in the province of Isernia, Belmonte del Sannio cherishes an ancient devotion to Saint Anacletus, its patron saint. The feast, celebrated annually on July 13th, has its roots in 1748, the year when – according to tradition – the saint's statue arrived in the village at the end of a historic pilgrimage from Oratino.
In the days preceding the feast, the Peregrinatio Sancti Anacleti, a re-enactment of the original pilgrimage, is renewed. On July 13th, the solemn moment is the grand procession with the patron saint's effigy, accompanied by religious and civil authorities and the band, through the streets of the historic center.
Alongside the religious dimension, the feast features band concerts, folk group performances, and evening musical shows. The event is organized by the Festival Committee of the Parish of Santissimo Salvatore, an expression of local volunteerism, and represents one of the most cherished identity moments of the entire summer for the community of Belmonte del Sannio.
In 2026, the Feast of Saint Anacletus in Belmonte del Sannio renews the July 13th appointment with the patron saint. Following the traditional structure, the day includes religious celebrations, the solemn procession with the saint's effigy accompanied by the band, and evening musical events. The organization is entrusted to the Festival Committee of the Parish of Santissimo Salvatore.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Festival Committee in the weeks leading up to the feast.
The established structure of the feast includes, in the preceding days, the Peregrinatio Sancti Anacleti (re-enactment of the 1748 pilgrimage) and, on July 13th, the Eucharistic celebrations, the procession with religious and civil authorities, the accompaniment of the band, and evening concerts in the square.
