The San Sigismondo Festival takes place annually in Vion, a hamlet within the municipality of Predaia, in the Val di Non, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. It is the feast day of the small community's patron saint and centers around the San Sigismondo chapel, the town's most significant building of historical and artistic value. More than just a religious celebration, the festival represents a moment of collective identity: an opportunity to come together, rediscover the village's roots, and renew a deep bond with its heritage.

A revived tradition

For years, the patron saint's festival was at risk of fading into oblivion. Thanks to the efforts of the Vion ASUC Committee, led by architect Alberto Dalpiaz, the tradition has been recovered and brought back to life, becoming a cherished event for the locals. As the president himself noted, it is "a beautiful moment of community," capable of "breathing life back into an important local anniversary." The Committee does not just organize the festival; it also manages the routine and extraordinary maintenance of the church, promoting cultural initiatives linked to the local heritage.

The San Sigismondo chapel

The Church of King San Sigismondo dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries and is considered "an ancient jewel that guards the soul of the community." Inside, it houses a Lindholm German harmonium, an instrument of significant historical, cultural, and musical value, which has recently undergone restoration. Once the restoration was complete, the Committee proposed dedicating a specific musical event to the harmonium, a testament to the value the Vion community places on its artistic heritage.

Music and community

The heart of the festival day is the liturgical celebration in the chapel, accompanied by the Coredo Band, whose music helps create the evocative, intimate atmosphere of the event and revives local traditions. Surrounding the religious aspect are social gatherings that make the festival a meeting point for the entire community of Vion and neighboring villages.

An authentic corner of the Val di Non

Situated on the Predaia plateau, amidst forests and mountain landscapes, Vion offers participants the chance to discover an authentic and lesser-known corner of the Municipality of Predaia and the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The San Sigismondo Festival is a prime example of how small Trentino communities know how to preserve and pass down their traditions, restoring dignity to places and memories that represent the soul of the territory.
