Vintage engines and Trabants in Valsesia for the San Pietro feast
During the weekend of the San Pietro patronal feast, the town of Borgosesia (Vercelli province, Piedmont) hosts a new event for four-wheel enthusiasts: the San Pietro Vintage Car Rally. In its inaugural edition, it joins the Amici della Trabant Rally, a well-established landmark for fans of Eastern European vehicles. It is a day designed to fill the town center with classic bodywork, the scent of gasoline, and the stories of those who have preserved and loved these cars over the years.
The event is open to all historic cars registered up to and including 1996, with a limit of 50 vehicles. Alongside Italian and European classics, the true stars are the Trabants, the small cars built in Zwickau from 1957 to 1991, a symbol of East German motoring. With their Duroplast bodywork and two-stroke engines, Trabants have become a cult object for collectors over the years: more than just nostalgia, they represent the memory of a shared daily life and an era that shaped European history.
The rally is not just a static display: the morning includes registration and breakfast, followed by a scenic tour towards Varallo Sesia, with an aperitif along the route, before returning to Borgosesia for the afternoon exhibition. It is the perfect opportunity to admire the cars in motion through the landscapes of Valsesia, one of the most picturesque valleys in northern Piedmont, at the foot of Monte Rosa.
The rally is part of the festivities dedicated to San Pietro, a traditional gathering for the Borgosesia community. Between exhibitions, food stalls, and the festive atmosphere, the event combines motoring passion with social spirit, in true Valsesian style. For those visiting the area, it is also an excellent excuse to discover Borgosesia, Varallo Sesia, and the Sacro Monte di Varallo, a nearby UNESCO World Heritage site.
The 2026 edition marks the debut of the San Pietro Vintage Car Rally, paired with the 4th Amici della Trabant Rally, during the weekend of the Borgosesia patronal feast. The event is open to all historic cars registered up to and including 1996, with a maximum of 50 vehicles admitted.
The day alternates between a static exhibition of the cars and a scenic tour in the Valsesia, with a stop in Varallo Sesia, where the Trabants and other vintage cars remain the absolute protagonists for the public.
During the day, it will be possible to have lunch at the food stalls in the festival area. In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled.
