The patronal feast of the Torremontanara district, blending popular faith, music, and the flavors of Abruzzo

In the heart of the Teatine hills, the village of Torremontanara—a small hamlet in the municipality of Torrevecchia Teatina, in the province of Chieti—celebrates its patron saint, San Pasquale Baylon, with great enthusiasm every year. The liturgical feast falls on May 17th, and the festivities are centered around this date, drawing visitors from across the Abruzzo region.
The religious core of the festival remains its most heartfelt moment: the celebration of Holy Mass and the solemn procession featuring the statue of the saint as it winds through the village streets, accompanied by the faithful. San Pasquale Baylon, a 16th-century Franciscan friar and patron of Eucharistic associations, is a figure of deep-rooted popular devotion throughout Central and Southern Italy, and in Torremontanara, his feast has marked the spring calendar for generations.
Alongside the sacred rites, the San Pasquale Bajlon Festival Committee organizes a highly anticipated secular program each year. The evenings in the square feature a mix of dance music, comedy shows, and concerts by prominent Italian performers: recent editions have hosted acts like I Nomadi and the Apulian comedian Uccio De Santis, alongside traditional folk music performances such as pizzica and taranta. The festival also features food stalls serving local specialties, vintage car rallies, art awards, and entertainment for children, keeping the village lively throughout the event.
The San Pasquale Baylon Festival is much more than a religious anniversary: it is an occasion for Torremontanara and Torrevecchia Teatina to reaffirm their community identity, showcasing the hospitality and traditions of the Teatine area of Abruzzo. It is an event that unites devotion to the saint with the joy of gathering together, blending the sacred and the profane in a quintessentially Abruzzese setting.
The San Pasquale Bajlon Festival Committee has not yet released the official dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Torremontanara patronal feast. As per tradition, the event is expected around May 17th, the day of the liturgical feast of San Pasquale Baylon, featuring Holy Mass and a procession through the village streets, accompanied by a secular program of concerts, shows, and food stalls. The complete calendar will be communicated by the organizing committee and the Municipality of Torrevecchia Teatina in the weeks leading up to the event.
