The new wine festival in the village of San Marco d'Alunzio
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
San Martino nel Borgo is the festival dedicated to new wine that brings the historic center of San Marco d'Alunzio to life every November. This charming village in the province of Messina is perched at an altitude of over 500 meters in the heart of the Nebrodi Park. The event celebrates the feast of Saint Martin, traditionally linked in rural culture to the ripening of the must and the opening of the first barrels of new wine.
Along Via Aluntina and through the village's characteristic paved streets, stairways, and alleys, food and wine stalls are set up featuring local specialties from the Aluntino area, alongside some of the best Sicilian wineries. Visitors can sample local products paired with new wine, discovering the authentic flavors of the Nebrodi region.
The most anticipated and symbolic moment is the historic Fontana Divina Aluntium: during the festival, red wine flows from the fountain instead of water, offering visitors a unique experience of conviviality. The event also includes a competition for local home winemakers, with entries evaluated by a panel of experts.
The days are filled with musical performances, folk shows, children's entertainment, exhibitions, and roaming folk music that winds through the town center. The village, with its medieval atmosphere and monuments, provides a natural backdrop for the event.
Founded on the site of the ancient Greek city of Haluntium, San Marco d'Alunzio is famous for its red marble and extraordinary historical and artistic heritage, ranging from the Hellenistic temple of Hercules to the numerous churches that dot the village. Visiting San Martino nel Borgo means combining a culinary experience with the discovery of one of Sicily's most fascinating villages, in a town that has made the preservation of its historic center and traditions a point of pride.
The 2026 edition of San Martino nel Borgo in San Marco d'Alunzio (ME) is scheduled for November, in line with previous editions. The official dates and the 2026 program have not yet been announced by the organizers at the time of publication. Following tradition, the structure of the new wine festival is confirmed: a food and wine trail along Via Aluntina, tastings of typical Nebrodi products, the historic Fontana Divina Aluntium flowing with red wine, the competition for home winemakers, and entertainment with folk music and traditional shows in the village's historic center.
The festival takes place in November, generally mid-month, coinciding with the feast of Saint Martin. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers.
