The historic spring festival in the medieval village of Clauiano
Clauiano, a hamlet of Trivignano Udinese, is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy: a medieval core of stone houses, archways, and courtyards that preserves the charm of the Friulian countryside intact. It is here that every late April, for the feast of San Marco, one of the most beloved and long-standing festivals in the area takes place, organized by the Unis par Clauian association. A celebration that combines devotion, gastronomic tradition, and conviviality, capable of attracting visitors from all over Friuli.
The heart of the festival is Friulian gastronomy: stands offer pasta with ragù, gnocchi, Milanese cutlets, grilled meats, frico with polenta, fried calamari, and homemade cakes, accompanied by wine, soft drinks, and draft beer. A packed program of events revolves around good food: charity fishing, live music, chess tournaments, briscola, homemade cake competitions, book presentations, and karaoke, with entertainment and creative workshops for the little ones.
Among the traditional events are the San Marco Walk, a non-competitive stroll through the countryside, and the Mass accompanied by the Friulian bell ringers (scampanotadôrs furlans). The festival is above all a great community celebration, where Clauiano's volunteers welcome visitors and showcase an authentic corner of Friuli, far from the most beaten tourist paths.
With the support of the Municipality of Trivignano Udinese and the commitment of the Unis par Clauian association, the San Marco Festival has become a classic of the spring calendar in the province of Udine: a perfect opportunity to discover the medieval village of Clauiano and savor the traditional dishes of Friuli.
The 58th edition of the San Marco Festival will liven up the village of Clauiano from April 24th to 26th, 2026. Three days of celebration with traditional Friulian food stands, charity fishing, live music, tournaments, and entertainment for children, organized by the Unis par Clauian association. Among the events are the mass with the Friulian bell ringers, the San Marco Walk, and the homemade cake competition.
