The ancient autumn fair of Aiello del Friuli, since 1816
Some fairs tell the identity of a place better than any history book, and the Fiera di San Carlo in Aiello del Friuli is one of them. Established in 1816 thanks to the concession of Emperor Francis I of Austria, who authorized the market on the occasion of Saint Charles' feast day, it is one of the oldest and longest-running events in the Bassa Friulana region. In 2026, it will reach its 211th edition, a number that alone is enough to understand how deeply rooted this event is in the community.
The fair is a market, a celebration, and a collective gathering all in one. Dozens of stalls featuring crafts, local products, and the unmissable second-hand market wind through the streets of Aiello's centre, while the funfair lights up the dedicated entertainment area. There are also exhibitions, vintage car displays, musical moments with live concerts, and the traditional non-competitive walk, the famous Dindiat, which attracts walkers from all over the area each year.
The culinary heart of the fair is singular: the Radetzky-style turkey, a signature dish that links Aiello to the Habsburg memory of eastern Friuli. In the food stands set up by local associations, you can savour the specialities of local cuisine accompanied by Friulian wines, in a convivial atmosphere that is the true hallmark of this event.
Organised by the Pro Loco Aiello e Joannis with the support of the Municipality of Aiello del Friuli (Province of Udine), the Fiera di San Carlo is much more than an event: it is the celebration with which the village closes the beautiful season and comes together around its roots, amidst peasant tradition, gastronomy, and the desire to be together.
The 211th Fiera di San Carlo in Aiello del Friuli will be held, as every year, between late October and the first days of November 2026, around the feast of Saint Charles. The precise dates have not yet been announced by Pro Loco Aiello e Joannis, but the event will maintain its proven multi-day structure.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by Pro Loco Aiello e Joannis in the weeks leading up to the fair. Based on recent editions, the following are expected:
