The traditional Roccaforte Mondovì festival featuring the blessing of agricultural machinery
The San Magno Festival is one of the most cherished traditions in Roccaforte Mondovì, a scattered municipality in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, nestled among the Monregalese valleys just a few kilometers from Mondovì. Across a territory made up of mountain hamlets and villages like Norea, Lurisia, Prea, and Baracco, this festival has been a staple of the local calendar for generations, drawing residents, families, and people from the surrounding valleys.
San Magno has been a figure venerated for centuries in the Alpine communities of the Cuneo area as the protector of livestock, pastures, and harvests—essential resources for the mountain economy. His devotion is linked to the protection of animals, fields, and those who work the land; for this reason, his festival still maintains a very strong bond with the agricultural world today. In Roccaforte Mondovì, the celebration takes place in spring, a time when the community entrusts itself to the saint before the season of field work begins.
The central and most characteristic moment of the festival is the blessing of agricultural machinery: tractors, tools, and equipment parade through the town streets to receive a blessing, in a ritual that fuses popular faith with rural identity. It is a striking and authentic scene that every year requires changes to local traffic flow to allow the celebrations to take place. The day opens with Holy Mass at the Church of San Maurizio and continues with the blessing and a communal lunch, a gathering opportunity for the entire community.
Participating in the San Magno Festival also means discovering an authentic corner of the Piedmontese mountains, far from the main tourist circuits. Roccaforte Mondovì is a gateway to a territory of valleys, trails, and traditions, also known for the nearby spa town of Lurisia. The festival is an opportunity to experience firsthand the popular spirituality and rural culture that still animate these villages in the Province of Cuneo.
The 2026 San Magno Festival was held in Roccaforte Mondovì on Sunday, April 19, 2026. In preparation for the celebration, the Municipality issued a specific ordinance for traffic management and road modifications in the town center.
The heart of the day was the blessing of agricultural machinery, with a parade of tractors and tools through the streets, preceded by Holy Mass at the Church of San Maurizio. The festival reaffirmed the community's strong bond with rural tradition and the figure of San Magno, protector of livestock and harvests.
