Five days of faith, music, and tradition in the birthplace of the Saint of Charity
Every year, Pontecurone, a small town in the Province of Alessandria on the border between Piedmont and Lombardy, gathers to honor its most illustrious son: San Luigi Orione. Born here in 1872, he was the founder of the Little Work of Divine Providence and was canonized in 2004 by Pope John Paul II. The Patronal Feast dedicated to him is both a religious milestone and a grand popular celebration that brings the historic center to life for five days, from June 19 to 23, 2026.
The event weaves together moments of spirituality and opportunities for the entire community to gather: visits to the Casa di Don Orione, celebrations at the Monument dedicated to the Saint, and concerts exploring figures linked to the area, such as the friendship between Don Orione and composer Lorenzo Perosi. Beyond the devotional aspect, the town streets fill with market stalls, displays, photography exhibitions, and performances, creating an atmosphere that draws visitors from across the Tortona and Alessandria regions.
The festival is organized by the Municipality of Pontecurone in collaboration with the Pro Loco and numerous local associations, with the patronage of the Piedmont Regional Council and the Province of Alessandria. The program alternates between culinary evenings, such as the famous Gnocco Fritto by the Pro Loco and the Pizza Festival, and cultural and musical offerings ranging from concerts by the Vivaldi Conservatory to DJ sets and local bands.
Visiting Pontecurone during its patronal feast means discovering a Lower Piedmont village deeply rooted in its traditions, where the memory of a saint beloved throughout Italy becomes a reason for meeting, sharing, and joy. It is the perfect occasion for those seeking an authentic experience, away from the usual tourist circuits, amidst spirituality, great food, and small-town warmth.
The 2026 Patronal Feast of Pontecurone opens on Friday, June 19, with a walk dedicated to Don Orione and the inauguration of the Pizza Festival, continuing for five days packed with religious, musical, cultural, and culinary events. Highlights include the concert dedicated to the friendship between Don Orione and Lorenzo Perosi, the "Istantanee da Ponte" photography exhibition, visits to the Casa di Don Orione, and the solemn closing celebration. The event is held under the patronage of the Piedmont Regional Council and the Province of Alessandria.
