About San Lorenzo al Monte

Every year, on the night of San Lorenzo, the Mezzocorona community gathers on the Monte plateau to celebrate under the shooting stars. Live music, a large bonfire lit after sunset, a snack bar with beer and sandwiches, the traditional dish of potatoes and sardines, and volleyball tournaments bring to life an evening of celebration open to all with free entry, at an altitude of about 900 meters overlooking the vineyards of the Piana Rotaliana.

A night of stars above the Piana Rotaliana

San Lorenzo al Monte is the traditional festival that every August 10th brings the community of Mezzocorona, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), to the Monte di Mezzocorona plateau, at an altitude of about 900 meters. The event coincides with the night of San Lorenzo, the famous night of the shooting stars, and transforms the plateau overlooking the Teroldego vineyards into a meeting point to await the first stars of desire together.

The traditional bonfire

The most anticipated moment is the large bonfire lit after sunset, the symbolic heart of the evening and a reminder of an ancient custom that unites fire, mountains, and community. Families, young people, and visitors gather around the flames, while the summer sky offers the spectacle of the Perseids far from the lights of the valley floor.

Music, flavors, and activities

The festival offers live music and various activities for all ages. In the afternoon, starting at 4:00 PM, children can have fun with Baby Dance, while throughout the day volleyball tournaments are held on the Monte meadow.

  • Snack bar with beer and sandwiches
  • The traditional dish of potatoes and sardines, prepared in collaboration with the two local restaurants, Ai Spiazzi and Tre Cime
  • Live music until the evening
  • Volleyball tournaments and Baby Dance for children

Ascending the Monte

The Monte di Mezzocorona can be reached by one of the steepest cable cars in Italy, which in just over three minutes covers over 600 meters of elevation gain from the historic town center to the panoramic plateau. Alternatively, you can hike up along the SAT trails or via the historic Via Ferrata del Burrone Giovanelli. From the plateau, the skywalk and the suspension bridge open up over the valley, with an open view of the entire Piana Rotaliana Königsberg.

A village festival open to all

Organized by the Pro Loco Mezzocorona, San Lorenzo al Monte is a popular festival with free entry, no reservation required. It is a genuine appointment of the Trentino summer, which intertwines rural tradition, local gastronomy, and the magic of the night of the shooting stars on one of the most evocative natural balconies in the Municipality of Mezzocorona.
