The patronal feast of Querceta, blending devotion, an agro-pastoral fair, and Versilia traditions
The San Giuseppe Fair is the most anticipated spring event in Querceta, a bustling village in the municipality of Seravezza, located in the heart of Upper Versilia in the province of Lucca. Every March 19th, the feast day of the town's patron saint, the village center transforms into a lively celebration that blends religious observance with popular fairground traditions, deeply rooted in the local Versilia community.
The event unfolds along the town's streets and squares: via Federigi, via Don Minzoni, piazza Pellegrini, via Fratelli Rosselli, via Versilia, and Piazza Matteotti host stands, stalls, and attractions. The heart of the fair is the agro-pastoral exhibition in Piazza Matteotti, featuring farm animals—cattle, horses, goats, sheep, and Maremmana cows—alongside a recreational area and a carriage display. Visitors will also find a showcase of local agricultural producers, the "Corte dei Sapori" (Court of Flavors) in the Comid area dedicated to local gastronomic specialties, as well as stalls offering traditional products, handicrafts, and antiques.
The festival retains its religious soul with a procession that departs from the church of Santa Maria Lauretana on the eve of the patronal day. Over the years, the celebration has also been enriched by cultural moments, including historical readings and narratives dedicated to the theme "San Giuseppe: Querceta between devotion and tradition," organized by the Versilia section of the Istituto Storico Lucchese.
The day is animated by numerous performances from local associations: falconry demonstrations, horse shows, flag-waver parades, a gathering of the Vespa Club Versilia Storica, and presentations by local sports teams, ranging from football to rugby. For children, pony rides and the "saddle baptism" are must-do activities, alongside the funfair with its rides. Local volunteer associations and social clubs bring the small squares to life with stands and initiatives, making the fair an authentic portrait of community life in Querceta.
Located in the heart of the Versilia hinterland, at the foot of the Apuan Alps and just a few kilometers from the coast of Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta, the San Giuseppe Fair attracts thousands of visitors every year. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the authentic side of Versilia, characterized by genuine flavors, local craftsmanship, and traditions passed down from generation to generation.
The 2026 edition of the San Giuseppe Fair brought the center of Querceta to life on Thursday, March 19th, confirming the established format of the patronal feast. The agro-pastoral fair in Piazza Matteotti featured farm animals (cattle, horses, goats, sheep, birds of prey), while the funfair in Piazza Lavoratori del Marmo remained open from March 19th to 22nd. The "Corte dei Sapori" in the Comid area highlighted local gastronomic specialties, accompanied by stalls from agricultural producers, artisans, and antique dealers.
Throughout the day: agro-pastoral fair with animals in Piazza Matteotti, recreational area with ponies from the I Cavallini farm for children, carriage exhibition, agricultural producers' market, and "Corte dei Sapori".
By car: Take the A12 Genoa-Rosignano motorway, exit at Versilia, then follow signs for Seravezza/Querceta. On the day of the fair, traffic regulations will be in effect, with the town center closed to vehicles.
By train: Querceta station on the Genoa-Pisa-Rome line is just a short walk from the fair center.
The fair is held every year on March 19th, the feast day of San Giuseppe, with the funfair remaining open for the following days.
Access to the fair is free. Funfair rides and certain activities may require a fee.
