Winemakers and tasting stands along the arcades of San Giorgio di Piano
San Giorgio di Vino is the wine event that transforms the historic center of San Giorgio di Piano, in the plain north of Bologna, into a large open-air tasting route. The characteristic arcades of the town, always a place for socializing and commerce, host winemakers' tasting stands for two days dedicated to the discovery of good drinking. The formula is that of an exhibition-market: you taste and, if a wine convinces you, you buy it directly from the hands of those who produce it.
The heart of the event are the over sixty wineries present, coming from numerous Italian wine-growing regions — Piedmont, Tuscany, Veneto, Sicily, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige, Campania, Puglia, and Sardinia — alongside a selection of international labels from Georgia and Slovenia, two countries with a long winemaking tradition. A broad overview ranging from great reds to local whites, from sparkling wines to natural wines, offering the public the opportunity to compare different styles and terroirs in one place.
The highlight of the event are the guided tastings by AIES Master Sommeliers, held in the spaces of Porta Ferrara. Each session, lasting about an hour, offers a commented tasting of four wines, with insights into the grape varieties and territories of origin: a journey that accompanies both expert enthusiasts and those taking their first steps into the world of enology.
Around the tasting stands, a rich supporting program develops, making the event suitable for the whole family:
Organized with the patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Metropolitan City of Bologna, the exhibition has a strong solidarity focus: part of the proceeds supports charity projects in the municipal area. The attention to the environment is evidenced by the adherence to the Plastic-freER initiative for the reduction of single-use plastic. San Giorgio di Vino is now an anticipated event in the gastronomic calendar of the Bolognese plain, capable of combining the promotion of quality wine with the enhancement of the historic center and its traditions.
The 2026 edition, the fifth, was held on Saturday, May 9, from 5 PM to 10:30 PM and Sunday, May 10, from 11 AM to 8 PM. Along the arcades, over sixty wineries from Piedmont, Tuscany, Veneto, Sicily, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige, Campania, Puglia, and Sardinia were present, along with a selection of Georgian and Slovenian labels.
At Porta Ferrara, three guided tastings by AIES Master Sommeliers were held: "Journey Through Piedmont's Reds" (Saturday at 7 PM), "The Surprising Pignoletto" (Sunday at 11:30 AM), and "Sangiovese and Its Territories" (Sunday at 4 PM).
The event, with free admission, benefited from the patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Metropolitan City of Bologna and adhered to the Plastic-freER initiative.
