The patronal feast of Grigno, featuring the Palio delle contrade, live music, and the flavors of Valsugana
The San Giacomo Festival is the most cherished summer event in Grigno, a town in the Lower Valsugana area of the Trento province, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The festival is dedicated to Saint James the Greater, the town's patron saint, whose feast day falls on July 25th. Around this date, the community gathers every year for several days of celebrations that weave together devotion, conviviality, and fun.
The most iconic moment of the festival is the Palio di San Giacomo, which involves the various districts and neighborhoods of the town. The districts compete in parades, games, and lighthearted challenges: card tournaments, skill competitions, and events for the youth, not to mention a mini-palio designed for children. The competition, experienced with a healthy sense of local pride, culminates in the awarding of the winning district and serves as a powerful unifying element for the entire Grigno community.
Alongside the Palio, the festival offers a rich calendar of evening events. Under the marquee set up for the occasion, concerts, ballroom dancing, DJ sets, and family shows take place, while the Pro Loco kitchen serves traditional dishes and local specialties. Between sandwiches, French fries, carne salada, and other regional offerings, the San Giacomo Festival is also an opportunity to discover the genuine flavors of Valsugana.
Located along the Brenta River, at the foot of the Lagorai mountain range and just a stone's throw from the Veneto region, Grigno is an ideal starting point for mountain hikes and exploring the villages of the valley. The patronal festival, organized with passion by the volunteers of the Pro Loco of Grigno, brings together residents, vacationers, and visitors in a warm and authentic atmosphere typical of Trentino villages.
The 2026 San Giacomo Festival in Grigno runs from Friday, July 26th to Sunday, July 28th, organized by the Pro Loco. Free inflatables for children will be available starting Friday.
Throughout the evenings, the Pro Loco food stands will be open, serving traditional dishes and Valsugana specialties.
